Grey’s Anatomy 6.05 “Invasion” Recap

October 16, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

As expected, episode 6.05 “Invasion” was chock-full of drama. We had the invasion of the Mercy Westers and their arrival at Seattle Grace was about as unwelcome as one can imagine. Both sets of doctors were quick to draw a separation line between them and for the rest of the episode it was all about trying to best each other, many times at the expense of the patients under their care. Alex and Reed were put in their place by a patients’ daughter. While Izzie’s confrontation with Charles had damning consequences.

Callie’s storyline for the episode had little to do with the ongoing invasion. She had an invasion of her own with the return of Daddy Torres, who brought along a priest to help cure Callie of her new-found gayness. Callie told her father, “You can’t pray away the gay!” And after butting heads a few times over Bible quotes, Callie stormed out. It was Arizona that stepped up to talk to Callie’s Dad and get him to remember his role as a father. In the end, Father and Daughter have a sweet moment, ending in hugs, smiles, and promises of grandkids.

Meredith spent the episode in a hospital bed, hiding away the pregnant belly, while the others came to visit her occasionally with updates of the out-of-body attackers. Meredith’s invaders were more internal for this particular episode. Very little Mer-Der to report.

Lexie and Cristina had their own battles against the Invaders. Lexie crossed the line when she stole the other doctor’s private notebook. But she apologized. Cristina’s battle led to a breakdown in Meredith’s hospital room during which she admitted that she misses Burke. Not romantically, but professionally. She doesn’t know what she’s doing anymore.

The most important part of the episode came at the end, when – after a fight with Charles – Izzie made a horrible mistake with a patient, causing the patient to lose her spot in the kidney transplant list and almost killing the woman altogether. The mistake cost her the job at the end of the day and despite teary begging, the Chief’s decision was final. Izzie was fired from Seattle Grace.

We then find out that in addition to leaving the hospital, she has also left Alex. She leaves him a vague note in his locker.

We already know that Katherine Heigl was granted a temporary (5 episode) hiatus from the show so she can finish filming a movie. All sources confirm that she will be back. Her departure has been in the cards for a while now and is meant to be only a short-term thing. It will be interesting to see what happens when she returns and whether or not she gets her job back.

Overall, the episode was mainly focused on the arrival of the new Mercy Westers and the changes that will emerge from their presence. There’s going to be a big adjustment period as currently nobody likes one another.

I’m looking forward to seeing a different dimension to the new arrivals as it’s an adjustment for viewers as well. I don’t really like any of them at the moment.

What did you think of the new doctors? And what did you think of the episode?

New Grey’s Cast Member Nora Zehetner Interview

October 15, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

admphotos330520-Nora-ZehetnerSo we all know that Shonda Rhimes means to shake things up with season 6. The Seattle Grace/Mercy West merger is a great way to change things around and introduce some fresh new faces to the show.

Fans are mixed in their reactions to these changes. Some are excited by the new and some just want things to go back to how they used to be. Going back is unlikely at this point. Rhimes and Co. seem to be going full speed ahead and the ever-revolving door of our beloved hospital is going to keep on spinning for the foreseeable future. On the plus side, we don’t have to miss Meredith at all. Phew.

One of the new faces we’ll be getting used to is that of Mercy West doctor Reed, played by Nora Zehetner. TV Guide sat down with the actress to pick her brain on the new role. As can be expected, her presence on the show is going to bring about new drama. Hers along with the rest of the “Mercy Westers.”

So, a little about character Reed: “She’s very feisty and a very hardworking doctor. She’s maybe a little overeager, trying really hard.” So … like, Cristina? “Maybe a bit like Cristina, maybe a bit like Karev. In terms of how motivated she is, maybe Cristina. I definitely butt heads with quite a few of the characters.”

So what can we look forward to for the rest of season 6?

Latest Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers from Ausiello

October 15, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Happy Thursday, everyone! Are you all excited about tonight’s episode? And also the Private Pratice episode? I know I am. But first, let’s get on with some upcoming spoilers and also general will-it-ever-happen type of information.

As always, if you don’t wish to know anything about what’s coming up, avert your eyes. Spoilers are ahead.

**Spoilers**

So here’s a question that gets thrown around a lot: Will Isaiah Washington ever return to the show? Ever? For even one episode? Please? Alas, my dear Burke fans, the answer seems to be a resounding No. No hope. No chance. No way. No how. However! If you’re willing to settle for a mere crumb of Burke-ness, he does apparently get a quick mention in this week’s episode in the form of Cristina saying, “I miss Burke.”

For those of you hoping for some earth-shattering Mer-Der scene in tonight’s episode, doesn’t sound like there will be one. But Ausiello tells us that there will be a scene at the end of the episode featuring Meredith/Cristina/Alex that will “have you crying and laughing (and in that order).

And finally, with all of the firings going on, we’re all a bit worried about who’s going to get the axe. This week, someone gets fired. We knew that, sort of. But the new reveal is that next week someone else gets fired too!

Thoughts? Speculations? Ideas? Hopes? Share them in the comments.

As always, feel free to follow GAN on Twitter @greysnews.

Ellen Pompeo Keeping Fit After Her Pregnancy (Photos)

October 15, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

So, in case you missed this piece of news from Kristin over at E! Online: Ellen Pompeo will not be missing any episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. All of those worries about what the show would be like without Meredith Grey can now be put to rest. The new mother has been spotted out and about and keeping in shape after giving birth on September 15 to baby girl Stella Luna. So, thanks to the fact that she’s making an earlier-than-expected return to the set and that the actress was willing to pre-shoot some scenes, not a single episode of Grey’s will lack our beloved Meredith. Hooray!

But if that’s old news to you, here’s some pictures of Ellen Pomepo strolling through L.A. in her work-out gear. Isn’t she looking wonderful?

Callie/Arizona Spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy 6.05 “Invasion”

October 14, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Gather around, Callie and Arizona fans. If you’ve been hoping for some Calzona news, here’s a few details about this week’s episode that should get you excited for the episode. As we know, Hector Elizondo is coming back into town with the purpose of getting Callie back on the straight and narrow road to straighthood.

Matt Mitovich has let out a few more hints about what happens as a result of Daddy Torres’ visit. According to his sources, “the resulting scenes serve up quite a showcase for the acting chops of both Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw.”

And as a bonus: We get to find out how Arizona got her name. Hint: It has nothing to do with the state.

Looking forward to it!

T.R Knight Wants a Baby

October 13, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Babies! Babies everywhere. There must’ve been something in the Grey’s Anatomy set water last season because babies are popping up all over the place. We’ve got pregnancies and adoptions galore. And now T.R. Knight has confessed to Ellen DeGeneres during an interview that he wants a baby, too.

That said, it sounds like this is a fairly recent development and not something secretly in the works for months and months (like Heigl’s adoption). He stated during the interview, “I don’t know if it’s going to end up working out, but that would be something I would like.”

That said, he did admit that he’s wanted kids for a while, but has been recently inspired by little Naleigh (Heigl’s baby). “She’s such a beatuiful baby. I’m so happy for her and Josh.”

So while T.R. Knight is no longer a part of the Grey’s cast (RiP, George), it’s still nice to know what the actor is up to. Perhaps we’ll hear news in the incoming months that he’s adopted!

Chandra Wilson to Guest Star in Private Practice This Week

October 13, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

For those of you that don’t make a habit of tuning into Private Practice each and every week, here’s a reminder to watch it this week: Chandra Wilson is guest starring! All that crossover fun we’d been hearing about over the summer begins this week on Private Practice when the loveable Bailey heads on over to Los Angeles. The reasons are purely professional, as Bailey is feeling “overprotective of a patient” who needs a procedure that can only be done in L.A.

No doubt this means that we’ll be seeing a lot of fun interactions between Bailey and the rest of the Private Practice cast. She’s bound to shake things up a bit with her tell-it-as-it-is personality. As Paul Adelstein has stated, “Bailey takes us to task. She’s a truth teller, and her writing is truth telling, so she comes in and busts us all down to size pretty good.”

So if you can’t get enough of Bailey (and how could you, really?) make sure to watch Private Practice after Grey’s.

Bonus: Sneak Peek video of the episode is up at E! Online.

Are you looking forward to the crossover?

Grey’s Anatomy – Episode 6.06: I Saw What I Saw – Spoilers

October 9, 2009 by Nikki Katz

Grey’s Anatomy
Episode 6.06: I Saw What I Saw
Airs: October 22, 2009
Spoilers

Here are the spoilers thus far for Episode 6.06!

  • When a burn victim unexpectedly dies in the E.R., all the Mercy West and Seattle Grace residents must defend their actions in hopes of saving their jobs.

  • Casting calls are for the following characters:
    • Cathy Singer: Female, Caucasian, mid 30’s, Patient in the hospital,
    • Danny: Boy or Girl, Caucasian, 6 y.o to play 5 y.o, adorable and vulnerable.
    • Evan Lang: Male, Asian or Latino, 18 to play 16 y.o., a thin music geek.
    • Roy Macinaw: Male, all ethnicities, mid to late 50’s, a big guy, working class, everyone loves him.
    • Fire Captain: Male, all ethnicities, 40’s, working class.

This season of Grey’s Anatomy is overwhelmingly defined by the merger of Seattle Grace and crosstown rival Mercy West. So what will this mean for some of our favorite characters?

Well, Dr. Izzie Stevens is getting fired. Izzie gets laid off in the big merger and vanishes for a handful of episodes while Katherine Heigl shoots her next movie, Life as We Know It. The shake-up also gives a good cover for Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave. She’ll fade into the background while new doctors, administrators and nurses fill in the gaps. Producers are, however, working to keep Meredith Grey in as many eps as possible.
