McPherson: Melissa George was a guest for one episode.
Reporter #1: …so many guests just leaving — no, she was in more than one episode.
McPherson: I’m not going to answer the question, that’s an absurd question. The only person who has left the show is Isaiah Washington.
Reporter #2: Brooke Smith.
Reporter #3: Melissa had contracted for 8 to 11 episodes, and she hasn’t gotten 8 to 11 episodes.
McPherson: She didn’t contract for that many episodes, she was a guest —
Reporter #3: That’s what she said.
McPherson: Well, we all know what everybody says when they leave the show, they want to say what works best for them.”
Reporter #3: She was in more than one episode.
McPherson: Yeah, I think she was in three. She was mentioned in one and then shown in two other episodes, I think.
Reporter #4: Brooke Smith was in the opening credits at the start of the season. Was that just, you didn’t like the character —
McPherson: Yeah, the character was not working for us, and the dynamic with the relationship was not working for us. We felt like Sara [Ramirez] is such dynamic character, an amazing actress and woman, and we really just weren’t seeing the excitement out of that relationship. There was some mention that we were upset by the lesbian nature of it. She’s going to be in a dedicated lesbian relationship (chuckling) in the show. So again, that was an actress who was trying to talk about something in a manner that would serve her and not the reality.

Let’s start at the beginning then: Melissa George was a guest for one episode? I’m starting to think the President of ABC doesn’t watch his own programming. From one episode to “I think she was in three. She was mentioned in one and then shown in two other episodes, I think.”

So far, Melissa George has been in five episodes (These Ties That Bind, In the Midnight Hour, All By Myself, Wish You Were Here and Sympathy for the Devil)and should be in a couple more, I believe.

I find it pretty insulting that he’d call George self-serving for telling the truth about how many episodes she was signed for. Especially considering all she’s done is sing praises for the show and the cast.

And then to bash Brooke Smith too? I think Smith handled the whole thing really well, considering she was booted to the curve kind of roughly.

But then he throws out a spoiler in the form of a “dedicated lesbian relationship” for Callie. There’s rumors that Callie and Dr. Arizona Robbins might start something, but there’s been no official confirmation. Though, I guess a comment from the network president could constitute an official confirmation though he didn’t name names. The two characters haven’t even met yet, from what I recall, though maybe next week when Callie starts “walking tall” through Seattle Grace.

I suppose we’ll see. That’s definitely a storyline I look forward to.

Mostly, I just feel bad for Melissa George and Brooke Smith. It’s really not right to make those kinds of comments about them. They don’t deserve it, in my opinion.

George told Entertainment Weekly that it was her choice to leave the show. She wants to “do something else.” That seems rather abrupt, considering she was intended to appear in 8-11 episodes with perhaps an option to remain for good.

Ain’t happening, alas. And sources behind the scenes seem to imply that it wasn’t all her idea. Seems like Sadie’s storyline had hit a brick wall – or as they like to put it ‘come to an end’. Well, there’s plenty of ways to re-spark a storyline. It mostly seems like maybe they don’t feel like it.

An ABC source says that the character was sort of doomed from the start.

For her part, George has only praises to sing for the show and cast. “I love the show so much. I’ve made some beautiful friends. I love T.R. Knight. I love Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers … I adore Ellen Pompeo. I think she’s a strong, incredible woman. And Katherine Heigl is the most beautiful creature on Earth.”

Well, I, personally, am sad to see her go. I love Melissa George and I thought Sadie was an awesome character.

So how does she depart? We don’t know yet. But she says “it’s really cool what they do.”

I don’t know what that might mean, but I’m hoping it actually is cool.

Wow, first they fire Brooke Smith, because they’re not happy with the “explicit” nature of her character’s lesbian relationship, and now they’re de-gaying Melissa George’s character. ABC is on an anti-gay rampage suddenly. Rather hypocritical for a network that fired an actor for his gay slurs.

Kristin from E! Online is reporting that Melissa George’s character “came on as a lesbian character, but they changed the script and now she isn’t. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere.” I thought it was bisexual? Well, all the same. No more.

Wonder if that means the entire Meredith/Sadie thing is out the window too?

What in the world is going on at ABC? Rebecca Romijn got the axe at Ugly Betty recently. She who played trangendered character Alexis Meade. Now Grey’s Anatomy is getting rampaged by the homophobic brigade.

The spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy keep pouring in, and here’s a few more, courtesy of Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly.

With regards to Ausiello’s very vague and cryptic clue regarding Denny’s return and Katherine Heigl’s possible departure at the end of the season (which Kristin from E! Online says won’t happen), we got this: “The exit primer I alluded to does not concern any kind of health crisis. Rather, it pertains to a very dark day in Izzie’s professional career that rears its ugly head again.”

A dark day in Izzie’s professional career? Is it something we’ve seen? Something brand new? So many possibilities there.

For those wondering how long Melissa George will be sticking around, Ausiello tells us she’s in for at least eleven episodes, though there doesn’t seem to be an “end date” for her character. She may be around for a long, long while. I expect audience reaction will have some bearing on whether or not the character stays, but then again, it may not.

Also, great news for Battlestar Galactica fans: Mary McDonnell (President Roslin) will be appearing in the November 13 episode as Dr. Virginia Dixon, who Ausiello tells us “shares something in common with a Bones regular.” More on this particular story in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Warning: Spoilerish type things ahead. But mostly a lot of answers that leave you with more questions than anything else.

When asked to say more about Sadie (that’s the character’s name), Melissa George stated that she’s “dying to find out more about her because her behavior is so interesting.” Oh?

She adds this:

She’s very close with Meredith; they were best friends. They traveled around the world together. And when Meredith went to work at Seattle Grace, Sadie went to work at a morgue. I’m dying to know why she behaves so recklessly. Anyone who behaves like that has to have a lot of issues.

On the question of sexuality, George says Sadie will “just take anything.” The character “gets a thrill out of shocking people.”

What everyone wants to know – including the actors, apparently – is whether “anything happened” between Sadie and Meredith during their wild world wide treks. No one knows! Perhaps the writers don’t know either. Maybe it was too wild for television.

What’s vaguely evident (if something can be vaguely evident) is that something happened:

There’s a lot of [Mer-Sadie] dialogue like “Don’t tell them what happened!” So, something did happen, but I’m not sure what.They obviously traveled together and were very close. Did they date? Did they not? Did something major happen to them that they swore they’d never discuss? It could be anything.

I’m guessing there was an incident involving bad Mexican food and a rollercoaster. Or am I thinking of a different show?

George guesses she’ll be on the show “for a while,” but adds that she’s “playing it by ear.” In other words, she has no idea how long they’ll keep her on, but she’ll keep on keeping on while they write her lines. So far she’s guaranteed to appear in four episodes, and it doesn’t look like she’s going away any time soon.

Regarding her storyline with Callica, Ausiello wonders which of the two George will be having a thing with, but George has no idea. She doesn’t even know if she’ll be involved with either one:

They haven’t told me, and I’ve been asking them every day, “Which one am I going to be making out with?” Or not! It could be one of the guys. I just said yes to Grey’s Anatomy, the greatest show on TV. I didn’t say, “What do I have to do?” So I’m sort of looking around going, “Which one is going to be my girl or my guy?”

Hey, what about McSteamy? He’s the only one currently unpaired. She sounds like she’d be right up his alley.

What do you think of this whole thing? Do you think Meredith and Sadie had wild times together? Do you care? Do you even care about this storyline?

I admit I’m looking forward to it.
