Grey’s Anatomy Discussion: Will you be watching season 6?

June 24, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

The news about season six of Grey’s Anatomy has been a bit extremist lately. On the one hand, there’s the really good news about who’s staying, and the really bad news about who’s leaving. So I’m sure for a lot of us, season six sounds bittersweet. For some, I’m sure, more bitter than sweet, and others more sweet than bitter, depending entirely on how you feel about the actors/characters involved.

I’d like to remind everyone that simply because an actor is leaving the show, that doesn’t mean their character’s fate is sealed. It’s entirely possible that George might survive and simply be written to leave the hospital. Then again, it’s also entirely possible that it’s bye bye forever.

Assuming you’re in the bitter camp, will you still be tuning into the season six premiere to see what happens? Or are you officially done with the show? Are there some of you sitting on the fence? Drop your thoughts about season six in the comments!

Rumor: ‘Lost’ Cast Member to Join Greys?

June 8, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

zumaredwestphotos070732-20080906-dbl-h16So the following piece of news may or may not have anything at all to do with Grey’s Anatomy. But since it could have something to do with it, let’s take a look, shall we?

Do avert your eyes if you wish to remain entirely unawares of anything and all things regarding the possible future of Grey’s.

Still with me? Good.

Reports from the Spoiler House of Ausiello state that Dominic Monaghan has managed to escape the island in Lost and jump on over to a different ABC show. Now it’s all very hush-hush. So hush-hush in fact that the show’s powers that be don’t want anyone to know about it. Know of any shows on ABC with secretive creators that hate spoiler leaks? Well, all of them, maybe.

Now the question remains: If it is actually Grey’s Anatomy that Mr. Monaghan will be joining, why all the secrecy? Does it have something to do with George? Or Izzie? Or something else Shonda Rhimes wishes to keep entirely secret?

Some suggest the reason for the privacy might have to do with Monaghan taking over for T.R. Knight as George O’Malley. Despite the fact that Shonda Rhimes has debunked this rumor, many still think it will happen anyway. After all, Shonda & Co. do love their twists. But I’m still of the camp that believes that this would a) piss off a lot of people and b) be a terribly lame idea. George without T.R. is not George and I’d be hardpressed to believe that the show would go in that direction.

Perhaps it’s not Grey’s at all that he’ll be joining. But if he were to join Grey’s what do you think his role would be?

What will happen with George and Izzie?

May 21, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

We’ve got a few months of speculation to get through before the next season of Grey’s Anatomy rolls around. I imagine that official news regarding who is staying and who is going will be a long way off, and if Shonda & Co. manage to get their way, we might not know anything at all until the season six premiere.

So all we’ve got in the meantime is each other and all of our crazy theories as to what might happen. I’m leaning toward the theory that Izzie survives and George walks into the white light. I don’t have any insider info to go by, so this is mere fan speculation. But I think that Izzie surviving makes the most sense. I say this not because Katherine Heigl said she’d stay with the show, but because storyline wise, I think her surviving is important.

Derek quit medicine because he kept losing patients and couldn’t quite see the point of continuing. Part of the reason he slapped on the scrubs again is because Meredith asked him to save Izzie. And I think that’s a story thread that’s worth seeing through. Sure, Derek is happy and back to being Derek and now Post-It married to Meredith. But why bother tying those two storylines together if Izzie was just going to die anyway?

I don’t believe both will die. I think that the OMG-factor is great for a season finale, but there has to be a balance of joy and tragedy to keep the rest of the characters from unraveling. The story has to go on beyond the doom and gloom, and I think losing one but saving the other will make for far more compelling drama than watching the entirety of Seattle Grace attend two funerals.

But that’s just my two cents on the subject. While I lean toward Izzie’s survival, that’s hardly the only option. Both can live, both can die. George can live on through a different actor if T.R. Knight is out the door - though I personally hate that idea.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 Finale Discussion

May 14, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

I hope everyone’s strapped in, for season finale night is finally here! Grey’s Anatomy concludes its fifth season tonight with its final two episodes, which are airing back-to-back on ABC. Don’t forget to tune in for both! (As if you could forget!)

I’m opening the floor to thoughts, comments and questions about the finale, so feel free to drop your thoughts into the comment section. I’ll keep the main post free of spoilers so everyone has a chance to catch up on the episode without worrying about seeing something they shouldn’t. But the comments section will be laden with spoilers, so watch for those.

Tonight we should hopefully get some answers about what’s happening with Izzie. Or, they might just leave us hanging all summer. I really hope not. Will Katherine Heigl leave? Will she survive through a medical miracle? I don’t know! And T.R. Knight’s George - what will happen to him? We should hopefully have answers to that too.

MerDer should at least get their happily ever after. Well, I’m crossing my fingers for that.

If you’ve already seen the episode, drop your opinions into the comments and we’ll see what everyone has to say!

Grey’s Anatomy Poll: Should Meredith get pregnant?

April 22, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

So, in case you haven’t heard: Ellen Pompeo’s pregnant. We’re all very happy for her and for her hubby Chris Ivery. Of course, pregnancy in real life generally means a huge headache in the writers’ room. Shonda Rhimes is refusing to answer questions about it yet on twitter, and Michael Ausiello ponders on CNN how the show is going to deal with a potential 3-month maternity leave for their lead actress.

But what about you guys? Do you think the powers that be should write the pregnancy in for Meredith or do you think they should hide it (like they’re doing with Chyler Leigh’s). Is it too soon for a McBaby?

Personally, while I wouldn’t be opposed to Meredith getting pregnant, I’m not sure the timing is right for that storyline yet. I am, however, looking forward to seeing what they come up with and how they deal with it. I’m more worried about the notion of Ellen Pompeo being absent from the show for a long period of time.

Grey’s Anatomy Recap & Discussion 5.19 “Elevator Love Letter”

March 27, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Grey’s Anatomy continues to impress me even more than usual. I almost don’t even know what to say about that episode. I thought it was amazing from start to finish.

If you’ve missed it, or can’t see it from where you are, here’s a brief recap:

“Elevator Love Letter” | Original airdate: 03/26/09

Izzie’s been admitted into Seattle Grace (as we saw last week), and Alex watches over her, from afar. Callie and Arizona dance around the living room (so we can assume that they’re together?) And Cristina and Owen (platonically) fall asleep. But the spinning of the fan seems to affect Owen in a terrible way, and Cristina wakes to find him strangling her. Thankfully, Callie hears the commotion and thinks to knock and enter. This wakes Owen up and Cristina breaks free.

Grey’s Anatomy 5.18 “Stand By Me” Recap & Discussion

March 20, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

I hope that by now everyone’s gotten a chance to watch last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy “Stand By Me.” What an awesome episode that was! I know a lot of people have lost faith in the show, but I really think they’ve been knocking it out of the ballpark lately. This last episode was truly wonderful.

A brief recap of the episode is after the jump!

Grey’s Anatomy 5.16 ‘An Honest Mistake’ Recap/Discussion

February 20, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

greys-anatomy-05ABC aired the sixteenth episode of Grey’s Anatomy’s fifth season last night and I have to say I thought it was a really great episode. It had its light moments, it had its intense moments, and I thought it was a really wonderful hour of television.

The main story from last night’s episode was Derek’s struggle with his own guilt. He messed up during surgery last week and this error ultimately cost a woman her life. To go along with this theme of mistakes, we saw Izzie dealing with messed up test results, and Cristina and Hunt dealing with another surgeon’s errors.

Other storylines from the episode:

  • Mark finally tells Derek about Lexie -which leads to the bloody fist fight on the bridge. I thought it was clear that Derek wasn’t really angry at Mark necessarily. Ausiello said that Derek was angry at Addison, but I think Derek was really angry at himself.
  • Callie finally stops avoiding Arizona and asks her out, only to get turned down.
  • Bailey is on her way to applying for that fellowship and trying desperately to gather some recommendation letters. The one that really matters - the Chief’s - isn’t what she hoped it would be.

So let’s recap:

Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice Crossover Event Discussion

February 13, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

greys-anatomy-05Last night ABC aired the first (or second, depending on how you look at it) couple of episodes of its long-awaited and highly-publicized Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice crossover event.

I’m not sure if I enjoyed the episodes as much as I was hoping to. And I don’t know if that’s because there was so much hype that my expectations were entirely too high. I was really happy to see Addison at Seattle Grace again, but - and I can’t quite explain why - I felt the episodes felt a little “off.”

I did, however, enjoy getting a little background on Owen Hunt with the introduction of his ex-fiancee. I like how the whole Cristina/Owen relationship continues on slowly but surely, despite the many bumps along the way.
