Grey’s Set Becomes a Baby Haven

It’s no secret that while on-screen the doctors of Seattle Grace are battling with drama, behind the scenes, many of the actors are enjoying motherhood and in Eric Dane’s case, soon-to-be fatherhood. Word from TV Guide reveals that babies are taking over the Grey’s set what with Ellen Pompeo’s 6-week-old Stella and Katherine Heigl’s 1-year-old Naleigh, and Chyler Leigh’s 6-month-old Anniston, not to mention the crew’s babies. So what’s to be done? Build a nursery of course!

Word has it that the Grey’s Anatomy babies will soon have their own nursery on set. For the moment, the trailers are doubling as “baby havens” according to Chyler Leigh.

The question, of course, then becomes whether all of this baby craze will inspire some on-screen pregnancies. While you should never say never when it comes to Grey’s, Shonda Rhimes has stated clearly that it’s not happening. In an interview with TV Guide, Rhimes stated, “We don’t do babies on Grey’s.” So no McBaby then? Doesn’t look like it … at least not any time soon. Rhimes explains that while Derek wants to be a father, Meredith isn’t into the idea so much. Uh oh. Will that be a problem in the future?

We’ll have to wait and see on that particular point. In the meantime, all the behinds-the-scenes baby love will have to do, as it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any pregnant doctors around Seattle Grace any time soon.

Ellen Pompeo Keeping Fit After Her Pregnancy (Photos)

So, in case you missed this piece of news from Kristin over at E! Online: Ellen Pompeo will not be missing any episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. All of those worries about what the show would be like without Meredith Grey can now be put to rest. The new mother has been spotted out and about and keeping in shape after giving birth on September 15 to baby girl Stella Luna. So, thanks to the fact that she’s making an earlier-than-expected return to the set and that the actress was willing to pre-shoot some scenes, not a single episode of Grey’s will lack our beloved Meredith. Hooray!

But if that’s old news to you, here’s some pictures of Ellen Pomepo strolling through L.A. in her work-out gear. Isn’t she looking wonderful?

Hiding Ellen Pompeo’s Baby Bump Throughout Filming

So everyone was wondering how they were going to hide Ellen’s baby bump during the filming of this season of Grey’s. Were they going to include it in the storyline? How were they going to hide it? Will Meredith disappear for a bit on the show? So far none of the above. They managed to hide Ellen’s bump throughout the entire 2 hour premier!

To be honest, I completely forgot that she was pregnant while I was watching! I was so into the show for every other reason that I forgot to notice that they were hiding it! My cousin had to bring it up the day after. “Did you notice that they always showed Meredith from the back, or only from the neck up, or sitting down?” Once she mentioned that, I knew that she was right. Obviously they did a good job of it though since I didn’t notice! So they got through the first premier, but will they get through the rest of the episodes that easily?

She looks about 5 – 6 months pregnant so I’m guessing her due date is somewhere at the end of the year, or very early Jan! Just realized that I’m behind on the news! Ellen actually had her baby September 15th!

The filming for Season 6 all took place earlier in July, so it will be interesting to see how the episodes from here on in take place! Thanks Sandra for pointing that out

Katherine Heigl Takes a Break From Grey’s Anatomy

According to Entertainment Weekly, Katherine Heigl is taking a five episode leave of absense from Grey’s Anatomy, starting almost immediately (past the season premiere) and finishing sometime in November. The reason? A scheduling conflict with the filming of Life As We Know It.

Heigl’s unexpected (or perhaps expected) break from Grey’s potentially overlaps with Ellen Pompeo’s upcoming maternity leave. Which means that for a big chunk of the first half of season 6 we’ll likely be missing both Izzie and Meredith. Expect to see the other doctors at Seattle Grace picking up a lot of extra screen time.

Then again, maybe not, seeing that the ever-revolving door of our favorite hospital has been spinning inward lately. New cast members have been added to the roster, such as Jesse Williams, who Ausiello confirmed will indeed have a recurring role in the series. Others like Nora Zehetner and Robert Baker have also been cofirmed.

As Shonda Rhimes somewhat cryptically pointed out during an interview earlier this summer, “Eventually, everybody is going to leave the show.” And she went on to state that season 6 would be about exploring the potential immortality of life beyond MerDer and the rest of the core cast.

So expect things this season to feel a bit experimental. Not too experimental, we hope. But yes.

Ellen Pompeo’s Baby Shower Hosted By Katherine Heigl

Well, it looks like all of the mystery surrounding the stroller-shopping has been answered: Yesterday, Katherine Heigl hosted Ellen Pompeo’s baby shower at her home in Los Angeles. There were twenty-five guests at the party, including Kate Walsh, Sandra Oh and Eric Dane’s wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart. According to PEOPLE, the party was held in the backyard, beneath the merciful shade of umbrellas.

It’s also very likely that the baby – due in October – is going to be a girl, gauging by the vast array of pink-themed gifts. Pompeo registered for gifts at the Juvenile Shop in Sherman Oaks, and received gifts such as: a Sleep Sheep toy mobile, Sleepy Safari stacking toys, organic hooded towels and more.

According to an eye witness, “Ellen looked gorgeous in a white summer dress with her hair in a braided up-do. She seemed very excited to celebrate with her girlfriends.”

People also revealed that Ellen Pompeo spent the earlier part of the day hanging out with friend and fellow mother-to-be, Nicole Richie.

It sounds like Ellen had a much-deserved great time with her friends. As seen in the photo, her husband Chris Ivery came by to pick her (and the loads of gifts!) up afterwards.

Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley Shop for Strollers

Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley were spotted in West Hollywood over the weekend shopping for a baby stroller at Bel Bambini. The happy couple was then spotted shopping for pastel-colored carpeting. All of this has raised a few eyebrows, leading people to wonder whether Katherine Heigl will be next in line for a maternity leave.

But it would seem a tad early for stroller shopping. Perhaps they’re shopping for gifts for Ellen Pompeo? Or maybe someone else entirely.

Grey’s Anatomy MerDer Spoilers for Season 6

Things are good for us spoiler fans these days. As the Grey’s Anatomy season 6 premiere draws closer, more and more spoilers are escaping from Shonda Rhimes’ super duper strong safe. And that means that we get more details to look forward to, or to, at least, anticipate.

If you’re allergic to spoiler dust, look away, my friends.

The latest spoilers have to do with Meredith and Derek. It seems fans have been speculating about what will happen with the couple next season and how Ellen Pompeo’s real-life pregnancy will impact the storylines on the show. Some people have gone as far as worrying that a break-up is imminent for the couple.

The good news from Ausiello is that no, they’re not breaking up. However, you should expect to see a lot less of Meredith toward the beginning of the season. The writers have been lightening up on Ellen Pompeo’s workload due to the fact that she’s, according to Krista Vernoff, “waddling around seven-months pregnant about to push a baby out of her body.”

She does go on to say, however, that Meredith and Derek continue to be “the focus of the series.” And that they “will always be a focus of the series.”

So, essentially, us MerDer fans will simply have to be patient and supportive through Ellen Pompeo’s pregnancy. While it means seeing a little less of Meredith for a few episodes, it’s reassuring to know that things between the characters are not headed toward doom and gloom. At least, not yet.

Ellen Pompeo Strolling Through L.A. (Photos)

The rumor mill is spinning wildly lately with news that Ellen Pompeo will be giving birth to a baby girl. She was spotted by questionable sources at a maternity store looking at the pink clothes. But nothing has been confirmed in this regard.

What we do know, is that she remains both pregnant and beautiful, and seems to really enjoy strolling through Los Angeles with a cell phone and some coffee. It remains to be seen how Shonda Rhimes will hide the pregnancy during the first episodes of Grey’s Anatomy’s season 6. While some viewers were hoping that the pregnancy would make it onto the storyline, it’s not quite happening. Admittedly, the timing is sort of off. But we can still hope for a McBaby at some point in the future.

ABC’s Stephen McPherson on Heigl and the Future of Grey’s

During the 2009 Summer Press Tour, ABC entertainment president Stephen McPherson spoke briefly about Grey’s Anatomy, stating that the show is “evolving” and that Shonda Rhimes “hit her stride” at the end of season five. So far, McPherson and the rest of the ABC suits seem to be “happy” with what they’ve seen of season six, which for us can mean just about anything. But hopefully good things!

In terms of what’s to come next season (avert your eyes if you don’t want to know anything!) he stated that the show would be seeing a few additions to the cast (interns maybe?) to fill the void left by Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave. While there’s no confirmation yet how long her absense might be, McPherson said it might take the actress out for “a couple of episodes.” I wouldn’t necessarily count on the two episode estimate though, as it’s really hard to say how long it might take.

In a statement regarding Katherine Heigl’s commentary on her cruel and mean return to Grey’s, McPherson said that the whole thing was “unfortunate” and made the good point that, “There are so many people who work unbelievably hard on Grey’s… so I think it’s really hard for them to hear [her complain about working a 17-hour day].” No doubt!

Aside from the usual dose of Heigl-drama, it looks like season six is going to be an interesting challenge for the writers, particularly with Ellen Pompeo’s temporary absence and T.R. Knight’s more permanent one. I’m interested to see what they mean by “evolving.”

Ellen Pompeo Photos: Pregnant and Beautiful

Ellen Pompeo was spotted out and about, heading toward her management’s offices and keeping herself hydrated. It will be very interesting to see what steps the Grey’s Anatomy crew takes to hide her belly, seeing as she’s very clearly pregnant. I suppose they’ll do the usual thing of shooting her from the chest up and making sure she’s usually sitting or wearing particularly baggy clothing.

Regardless of what they do, I’m sure she’ll still look beautiful on screen and I look forward to seeing what else season six brings our way.
