TV Guide Interview with Shonda Rhimes and Season 6 Spoilers

November 18, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

It’s time for another Shonda Rhimes interview, which means lots of information about what we can expect on Grey’s Anatomy. It’s evident that the beloved Executive Producer/Creator of our favorite show is excited about the show’s direction and the storylines underway. So let’s see what she had to say about it all!

If you wish to remain fully in the dark about the future of the show and its characters, do look away. Otherwise, carry on.

In regards to the Teddy/Owen/Cristina (Bermuda) Triangle, she says that new doc Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) will mess with Cristina and Owen’s relationship “but not how you’d expect.” Rhimes continued, “I think everyone assumes it’s going to go one way. It’s a very different story than we’ve ever told before.”

In related news, Kevin McKidd told TV Guide, “Something happens between the three of them that’s pretty explosive. Up until now you’ve not really seen anyone draw any lines in the sand, but you start to see that this week.”

What does it all mean? Besides the obvious: Cristina does not like Teddy. So much for loving her present.

Moving on to Meredith and Derek:

Well, we know they’re not breaking up. And that they’re going to have “work-related challenges.” Aside from that, we don’t really know much more. Rhimes said, “I think a lot of what’s going on with them is watching them come into their own as doctors [and] watching what goes on between them in the hospital situation.” So, work-related challenges. Emotional highs and lows. The usual.

If you’re concerned for the Chief after the end of last week’s episode: You should be. According to Shonda Rhimes, that whole mess is going to “get a little complicated. That’s going to get more complicated than I think anybody expects.” Can we say uh-oh? Doesn’t look like it will get complicated in the surgery department though. “I really want to protray the real story and what happens when a doctor goes off the wagon and how they deal with that.”

On the plus side, if you love Loretta Divine (Mrs. Chief) good news: She’ll be back often. Hooray!

Regarding Katherine Heigl’s return and then confirmed re-departure, Shonda Rhimes says that they’ll adapt to the change and that they have no idea how long her “maternity” will last for.

Speaking of parents, Mark Sloan will be dealing with that particular storyline soon enough as his grown-up child makes an appearance. Of this particular story, Rhimes said, “That’s going to be fairly interesting. We’re going to dive very far into Mark Sloan and discover a bunch of stuff.”

So we’ve got lots of little snippets of info to digest. What do you think will happen with Cristina/Teddy/Owen. Are you enjoying that storyline or do you wish they’d put the triangle aside? A lot of you are cheering for Cristina/Jackson. Are some of you cheering for Teddy/Owen?

And what do you think of Mark having a daughter?

Confused about Mark having a daughter!!!
Especially as the whole thing with Adisson having an abortion and the whole episode a few seasons back stating how Mark would have been a terrible father! Doesn’t make sense at all…but looking forward to it anyway =)

  2. KC says:

Please don’t tell me they are going to have Yang, Hunt & Tedddy have a 3-Way like Gossip Girl…to me that’s almost what ya’ll are making it sound like and since Cristina was the one they wanted to put into a lesbian relationship at first, nothing would surprise me with this show anymore.

As far as Sloan having a kid, Izzie had one and given it up when she was super young…its possible he has one and never knew. Depending on how this story goes, it could be very intriguing to watch.

Speaking of Izzie, why not just write her out of the show at this point and time. I used to be a die hard Izzie fan, but I see that the show can still carry without her….just leave the rest of the cast ALONE!

  3. Jennifer Harrison says:

I will say that I want Cristina and Owen to come through this. They’ve been through so much as it is. And for them to be over is very wrong.

  4. Jamie says:

I am very excited about the direction the show is headed. I think the writers and producers and fan’s all agree that we have recently been introduced to a whole bunch of folk and now we are about to dive into this people and get a central storyline in place. I am a die hard Grey’s fan and I really want to see it do well. Good Job Shonda keep up the good work.

  5. arpi says:

    shonda…dr.burke (isaiah w) never back to GA??????…:-(

  6. robbie says:

A lot of interesting developments to come in 2010 – but I can’t believe we’ll have to wait until January for the next episode!!! (After tonight I mean!)

Not sure how I feel about Sloan having a kid… definitely has to be one he doesn’t know about…

I think the “love triangle” between Christina, Owen and Teddy will end up being work related. Christina will become best buddies with the new cardio goddess and Owen will get jealous of Christina’s new “work wife”!!

  7. Amanda says:

And once again Shonda gave an interview and she didn’t say even one word about Private Practice. Does this woman even remember that she has two shows?

  8. Shanel says:

OK I’ve seen this episode but what I want to know is there only 10 episode for season 6?
