Grey’s Anatomy 2009 Emmy Nominations

July 16, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

upiphotos805117-EMMYSWell, the 2009 Emmy nominations are in, and I’m sad to say that Grey’s Anatomy failed to score a nominiation in the major categories. Those being: Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Actress. It wasn’t shut out entirely, of course, though I’m still disappointed. Particularly by the fact that Katherine Heigl got left out. That said, it’s always nice to see Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh getting recognized, but I feel like this year it should’ve gone to Heigl. Also, what’s with the guys getting left out all the time? Justin Chambers was amazing this season.

I’ve gone through the full PDF file of nominations to find all the Grey’s Anatomy related ones. If I’ve missed one, let me know, and I’ll be sure to add it:

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

  • Chandra Wilson
  • Sandra Oh

Outstanding Main Title Design

  • Grey’s Anatomy – “Dream a Little Dream of Me” Pt 1 & Pt 2

Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series

  • Grey’s Anatomy – “Stand By Me”

Outstanding Guest Actress In a Drama Series

  • Sharon Lawrence – “No Good At Saying Sorry (One More Chance)”

Bit of a sad show this year, I think. What do you think of the 2009 nominations?

I think that no nomination for Katherine Heigl is absolutely ridiculous. It has more to do with the fuss surrounding last years awards and her withdrawal than it does about her performance.

  2. Julie says:

I agree, Katherine Heigl deserved to get a nomination this year. I think her not getting a nod is backlash from the Emmy voters for what she said last year when she didn’t put her name in. And Justin Chambers? If his performance last season wasn’t worthy of an Emmy nomination, I don’t know what is. He was brilliant and gave the cancer storyline much of its depth and emotional impact. I’m more sad that Justin didn’t get a nomination because I truly believe he’s so underrated and deserved some recognition.

  3. Christina says:

I’m actually not surprised about KH not getting nominated after all her hoo-ha last year. I am disappointed that JC didn’t get a nod. He did a phenomenal job this season.

  4. Zoe says:

Even though Katherine Heigl made a big deal about withdrawing from the Emmy’s last year, it’s not fair that they even took this into consideration and decided not to nominate her this year, because she did do an absolutely amazing job this season, I think, even more so than Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh. Justin Chambers was also spectacular. I think there’ll be a lot of backlash for this, albeit mostly from Grey’s fans.

  5. Pamela says:

I am shocked that Grey’s Anatomy did not receive more nominations. The latest season was brilliant. The story line was well written- I practically cried after the last couple of episodes. Katherine Heigl delivered a noteworthy performance. Its disappointing that she will not receive the recognition and commendation that she deserves for it.

  6. Meg says:

Im sorry but as snobby as KH has been acting does she really deserve a award. I would much rather seen George stay then her. It has not been Greys Anatomy this years. It has been Izzie anatomy.

  7. Illiana says:

Anna, you don’t know that, you don’t know why they didn’t vote her, maybe they just have a different opinion about her acting this season than yours.
I’m not sad for her, because it’s thanks to her and T.R. that GA has such a bad fame. During the first seasons the show was well respected and then thanks to their continuous drama off screen the show is now most known for that and not for its quality. I think that’s why most people compare it with a soap opera, instead of giving it an opportunity to really know how great it is. And thanks to all that it is ignored in most awards, because it is not so respected like other shows, not because it’s not as good. At least in my opinion GA is as good or even better than most of those other dramas.

I THINK IS JUST SAD THAT THEY COMPLETELY IGNORE JUSTIN CHAMBERS…
HE DID A GREAT JOB THIS SEASON!!

  9. Cath says:

I agree, Katherine Heigl should have gotten recognized I mean this whole last season was pretty much about her! Come on she was amazing and so was Justin Chambers I have to say his best season yet. I love Grey’s and think everyone was great this season. I am really looking forward to next season.

i think greys anatomy should’ve got nominations for everyone, it was their best season, the writing and the acting was unbelievable, and the elevator scene in the last episode its amazing, even the music its perfect. It’s a real shame, but i’ll still looking forward to next season

I am so disgusted by the lack of nominations for this year. I believe this was one of the best seasons in Grey’s Anatomy in a long time. I kinda agree that some of the cast shouldn’t be there at all. For instance, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torress is completely pointlesss. I wish that when Callie and Hahn split it was Callie who took a hike. The Arizona and Callie relationship is totally retarded. I love Arizona from the moment I saw her because she just brought something special to the series. Owen Hunt was an amazing additon to the series. Chyler is a big no-no! I hate her and her relationship with Sloan. I think Sloan could do so much better. Plus I like the man whore part of him. It added some comedy to the dark and very twisty series. I cannot remember her name but it was the oncologist for Izzie, but I love her. I think the Chyler should be the one that dies or Callie instead of George or Izzie and that oncologist should be with Sloan. or Arizona with Sloan. I really like the hallucination part because it was so unexpected that Izzie would get Cancer. Alex did amazing he definately should of got an emmy nomination at least. That makes me so mad. No wonder they didn’t get nominated for best cast because as amazing as the cast was there so many people who kind of screw things up. Not to mention that totally pointless college friend of Meredith. She must be the worst.
I agree Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson get a nomination. Sandra should get it though.
Ellen Pompeo should get a nomination at least once before the series ends.
Patrick deserves it. So the Kevin Mckidd.
If they roll up there socks and sleeves. Maybe things will be way better in the future.
P.S if George dies, I think that Burke should come back for George’s funeral and Burke should be connected with Christina again and then she goes through a big dilema to see who she should choose.

  12. lila says:

je suis conte que sandraoh ai ete nominée c est la meilleure j espere qu elle va gagner

  13. Hilary says:

To say that Callie’s character is not important to Grey’s Anatomy is not only WRONG but also unfounded. Sara Ramirez adds such an amazing perspective to the show- she is an excellent actress. She makes Callie become more than her waif-like counterparts (not saying that i don’t LOVE them too, Callie is just identifiable to more women than the rest ) The fact that Sara wasn’t nominated for an Emmy is a serious letdown, especially for the fifth season of Grey’s.
