Ellen Pompeo Photos: Pregnant and Beautiful

July 31, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Ellen Pompeo was spotted out and about, heading toward her management’s offices and keeping herself hydrated. It will be very interesting to see what steps the Grey’s Anatomy crew takes to hide her belly, seeing as she’s very clearly pregnant. I suppose they’ll do the usual thing of shooting her from the chest up and making sure she’s usually sitting or wearing particularly baggy clothing.

Regardless of what they do, I’m sure she’ll still look beautiful on screen and I look forward to seeing what else season six brings our way.

Grey’s Anatomy was filming outdoors, which means that the media’s cameras were at the ready, set to capture as many set photos as they could. That also means that we’re getting an early peek and a spoilerish look at what’s happening when the series picks up.

George Spoilers and the Story We Won’t Get to See

July 27, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

phlphotos101211-T-R-Knight3377By now I’m fairly certain that anyone that keeps up with Grey’s Anatomy news between and during seasons is aware that T.R. Knight has officially left the show.

We knew, too, that Shonda Rhimes stated around the time of the announcement that she really wanted T.R. Knight to come back to film an episode of season six, but that Knight declined the offer. This left us wondering what exactly Rhimes might’ve wanted to film and whether it meant that George had a chance of survival, or not.

Well we now know for certain exactly why Shonda Rhimes wanted T.R. Knight back and what we won’t get to see.

I’m going to put the next part after the cut, and also warn anyone seeing this page directly that there are spoilers and would-be spoilers ahead so please stop reading if you don’t want to know anything for certain regarding George.

Ready?

Set.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 Spoilers: Lexie Taking Over for Meredith?

July 23, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

khphotos120188-Shonda-RhimesAccording to Shonda Rhimes, season six is going to be about transitioning. It seems to have occurred to the exec producer and creator that eventually most of the cast will want to move on and while I think a lot of us would agree that’d be the right time to pack it up, Rhimes thinks the show could have a future beyond the core cast, if they play their cards right. What brought all this on? Well, there’s T.R. Knight’s decision to leave the show, as well as Ellen Pompeo’s upcoming maternity leave.

Here’s the full quote from Shonda Rhimes about Ellen’s maternity leave and the future of Grey’s:

“Ellen is incredibly optimistic and somehow thinks she’ll be back and ready to rock ‘n’ roll. [But] I have a child, so I know that that’s not true. [So] we have a lovely story [on deck] that will take us into her maternity leave. And we have plans for some really interesting stand-alone episodes for [while she's gone]. But we’re heading towards the future of the show and eventually, unless we’re really lucky, everybody’s going to go. That’s what the end of season 5 taught me. So we’re looking at, How do we mess with that structure now while we have everybody and figure out ways in which, ‘What would we do without Ellen? What would we do if we had an episode without Patrick Dempsey?’ So season 6 is important. A lot of shows don’t make it through season 6 because they don’t know how to transition.”

A show without MerDer? Would you watch it??

T.R. Knight On Why He Left Grey’s Anatomy

July 23, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

ImageIf you’re anywhere near a magazine stand tomorrow – July 24 – make sure you pick up a copy of Entertainment Weekly. On the cover: T.R. Knight. And inside the cover, there’s an interview with T.R. Knight about the real truth of why he left Grey’s Anatomy and what happened behind the scenes to make him want to leave forever.

Michael Ausiello posted a few sneak peeks of the article in question. This past season – season 5 – George’s screen time in the first nine episodes was atrocious. His total screen time for those nine episodes totaled 48 minutes, which is pretty sad compared to Sandra Oh’s 114. T.R. Knight reveals that he didn’t go to Rhimes to ask what was going on, and instead decided simply to move on from the show. “My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George],” he explains. “And with respect, I’m going to leave it at that.”

Reading between the lines, we can see that there must’ve been a lot of friction between T.R. Knight and Shonda Rhimes and perhaps others. It’s unclear whether this friction was there from the beginning or if it came as a result of the whole Isaiah Washington mess. Though Shonda Rhimes denies it – insisting she was supportive of T.R. Knight’s decision to come out – T.R. states that Rhimes was among the people telling him not to come out. “I think she was concerned about having my statement come out so close to the [initial] event.”

He admits that he was not a fan of the storyline in which George cheats on Callie with Izzie, and that what came next for his character after that was a lot of nothingness (season 5). “There just comes a time when it’s so clear that moving on is the best decision,” he says.

Katherine Heigl tried to talk him out of it, insisting that she didn’t think it was the right decision and that whatever problems existed could be ironed out. But in the end she says that she’s happy for him because T.R. seemed ready to move on.

In terms of how he feels about leaving, T.R. Knight acknowledges that many people think that his leaving is seen as him being a spoiled actor, but he maintains that “in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work.”

The full story is on this week’s Entertainment Weekly so be sure to pick up a copy!

Kate Walsh at The Ugly Truth Premiere Red Carpet (Photos)

July 22, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

I know that Kate Walsh isn’t technically part of Grey’s Anatomy anymore, but she’ll always be a part of Seattle Grace to me. So I was happy to find that she was also in attendance at the premiere of Katherine Heigl’s new movie The Ugly Truth. Beautiful as always, our dear Addison was all smiles for the cameras. The event took place on July 16 at The Pacific’s Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, CA.

I miss Addison on Grey’s. Don’t you?

Katherine Heigl Has a Cruel and Mean Return to Grey’s

July 22, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Some of you probably caught Katherine Heigl on The Late Show with David Letterman so this won’t be news to you. But for those that haven’t heard, the cast and crew is back at work on the next season of Grey’s Anatomy and Katherine Heigl is, of course, among them. Of her return to the set, she stated, “Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.”

I’m sure that comment totally endeared her to people who work for way more than 17 hours a day and don’t get paid a fraction of what she does. But we know Heigl isn’t known for editing herself well.

But what of being back? “It was actually kind of really great to be back,” she said. “All my friends are there and at this point, they’re sort of like family, but it was a little weird because [T.R.]’s not there anymore.”

In terms of spoilers, there really weren’t any. She doesn’t reveal what happens to Izzie exactly, other than saying that since she’s there one can assume that she’s “either there as a ghost, or on the other side or I survived a disease no one survives.” And my money’s on the latter because I think we’ve had enough of ghosts on this series … don’t you? She did also say it was possible that Izzie might be in a coma as well, because they would “do that to [her].”

As far as Heigl making a departure from the show sometime soon, she seems pretty invested in the two-year contract that remains, so it doesn’t sound like she’s following T.R. Knight’s footsteps any time soon. Then again, you never, ever know with this show.

I know feelings about Katherine Heigl are very mixed – you love her, you’re sick of her – but what did you think of the David Letterman interview? Do you think she came across is a negative light or do you think she was just being her honest self?

Katherine Heigl Signing Autographs Before David Letterman Show (Photos)

July 21, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

Katherine Heigl stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman last night and took some time out of her schedule to meet with anxious fans and sign some autographs. The photos are taken outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, New York.

It’s always nice when actors stop to meet with fans. It must be really hectic having hundreds of pieces of paper and notebooks shoved desperately in your face. But Heigl always looks like a pro.

Aside from signing autographs, she also took a minute to pose for the cameras.

E! Online Interview with Katherine Heigl

July 21, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

phlphotos126278-Katherine-Heigl6262Katherine Heigl sat down with E! Online to discuss her big return to Grey’s and the fact that T.R. Knight isn’t returning to Grey’s and just how she feels about it all. It’s a fairly short clip, but we learn a lot from it.

For example: Heigl has known for a year now that she’d be returning next year. She’s also known for a year that T.R. Knight would not be returning for season six. She also admitted that she was surprised that ABC/Shonda Rhimes had let the cat out of the bag already since they’re all about the secrecy.

When asked how she felt about T.R. Knight not coming back, she said she was really sad about it, but that at least they live three minutes away. When the interviewer pointed out that T.R. would be headed to New York soon (to star on Broadway) she said, “That really pisses me off.” Heh heh. Guess she’s not very fond of the idea of having her best friend really far away.

Another thing revealed is that Heigl has nada, zero, zippo plans of ever giving the Broadway stage a shot.

(Never say never, though).

More on the Denny/George Elevator Switch

July 20, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz

80729W6 HEIGL K B GR 06So last week, Michael Ausiello revealed that it was originally supposed to be Denny outside the elevator doors, not George, at the end of the season five finale. The realization that it should’ve been George struck Shonda Rhimes after production had wrapped for the season, which left her with a couple of obstacles to overcome if she wanted the new ending. Ausiello left us hanging, telling us to check out the printed EW issue for more info, but then he went ahead and gave us the details on his column anyway.

So, the first obstacle was the fact that T.R. Knight had gone ahead and shaved his head, thinking he was done with Grey’s. But as luck should have it, part of his storyline included enlisting in the army so Shonda decided to just stick him in a military uniform. Problem solved.

The other problem, is that Katherine Heigl wasn’t available to return for a re-shoot, since she was all the way in Atlanta working on a different project. So T.R. Knight phoned up Heigl and discussed what Heigl had done in that scene so that he, in turn, could match her facial expressions. “I was like, ‘What did you do in that scene?’” he says with a laugh. “It’s nice when you’ve worked with someone for five years. There’s a shorthand.”

Concerned, Heigl called up Shonda to make sure that it would work, but Rhimes assured her that it would be “perfect.”

And indeed, had we not been told that this was not the original ending, I doubt any of us would’ve thought differently.

I’m glad that it all worked out in the end, as I think seeing George standing there was a much more powerful ending than Denny standing there.

Thoughts?
