T.R. Knight Officially Departs From Grey’s Anatomy
June 17, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz
While we’re still a ways away from the season six premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, sources from above have confirmed that ABC has granted T.R. Knight a release from his contract.
What does this mean for George? I’m afraid that the news is grim. Though many fans seem to still think the character could live on in another actor’s body, Rhimes has laughed off the rumor, which presumably means that George does not survive the accident.
It does however sound like Shonda & Co. would’ve liked to have Knight around for three episodes next season, but that could not be worked out. Which means that we may very well have seen the last of George/T.R. Knight at Seattle Grace.
Sad news.
For T.R. Knight fans, the actor is in talks to return to the Broadway stage for the revival of Lend Me a Tenor in 2010.
How do you feel about the departure? And what do you think it means for Izzie?

very bad news…, I always loved george (tr.) he is a part of the show wich is going to end with a sad storyline I think it’s going to be a hard thing to wach grey’s without him…
Words cannot express how sad this makes me. I’ve been watching all of the old seasons over again and have completely fallen in love with George all over again. But I must say, I’m really glad they aren’t just subbing in a new actor to take over George’s character cause only T.R. could pull off that kind of honesty and innocence that made us all fall in love with George in the first place. Very sad day in Grey’s-land indeed.
I was really hoping T.R. would stay, at least in some capacity. I fear that Grey’s just won’t be Grey’s without George. Wow, just really bad news for the show imo.
When I realized John Doe was George on the series finale I screamed out, “OH MY GOD! IT’S GEORGE!” And then I burst into tears… I must’ve looked crazy but it’s so sad to grow to love a character and witness his demise.
Well, i’m not really a romantic, and i haven´t watch the complete season 5, but i was expecting to see what happened between Lexie and George, i expected somekind of reborn in teir relationship, even a contest between mark and george for the love of lexie; i like the couple, but i think there is no future between them, sad for me and others Lexie/george fans…
NOOOO! Seattle Grace needs George. I love them all for their individual strengths and failings but Gorgeous George O’Malley is often the only sensible, level headed resident. He is smart and funny and strong. I will never forget when Bailey was in labour and he solidly supported her through it. What will we all do without George? I would have much rather have lost Izzie.
Also, despite his personal fall downs, how about a return of Preston Burke? His character was great and I think Grey’s could use another strong man for Season 6.
I will miss George’s character and TR Knight who portrayed him beautifully. I do wish him the best. Will I continue watching? Hell yeah! I love the whole show and cannot even think about not watching every Thursday night.
What a thing for izzie to wake up to if she does survive! “yes! im alive!- oh what , thats rubbish my firends dead!”
Nothing else sums up the way I feel better than =( =( ………………..
I am so sad to hear that George is leaving the show. He had been my favorite character ever since day 1 and he was also one of the very best actors on the show. Grey’s will definitely not be the same without him. Although I was really pissed with his lack of storylines in season 5, what was up with that? Still, George O’Malley will be missed.
ooooh! it’s not fair…! i’m always gonna be in love of george…! i already miss him :..,( i really hope with all my heart, that rethink well the things And desist from the stupid idea of killing my george…please don’t let him disappear
oh.. its so sad that george (t.r)would not be in season 6 anymore.ive been watching greys from season 1 to 5 and george o’malley’s character is really a big part of all the season of this show.hope he will still think of it and decided to continue his role in this show.Greys anatomy is incomplete without his character.
