Interview with Eric Stoltz
January 8, 2009 by Ingrid Diaz
E! Online got to sit down with Eric Stoltz -or maybe stand up with him, it’s unclear – and ask him a few questions about his character on Grey’s Anatomy. As I mentioned yesterday, Stoltz implied that his character – William Dunn – will be the cause of some tension between MerDer.
The three-episode arc will feature Stoltz as a death-row inmate whose crimes against humanity get revealed during tonight’s episode. Seems our little convict got a shiv plunged into his back during a fight in prison. Ouchies.
During his interview he didn’t reveal much – he wouldn’t want to incur the wrath of Shonda, I’m sure – but he did say that he’d been surprised by the nature of the role. He’d originally thought Shonda would offer him a hunky hero type role. But she convinced him this was better, or at least not too bad. “She said that people who do truly evil things usually are not evil 24 hours a day. They have friends, they have a life. You should really hate this man for all that he does, but because that part is so well-written, that character gradually works itself into your subconscious, and some deep, disturbing recognition happens.”
A loveable killer – Dexter anyone?
But more importantly, Stoltz revealed that Patrick Dempsey is secretly a tickle monster.
Yeah, you read that right.
“The cast had some fun at my expense when they realized I was no longer directing and I was merely acting, handcuffed to a bed. Some of them took advantage of that and sadly, in a cast filled with attractive and talented women, I think the person who took the most advantage of my position was Patrick Dempsey. More than once, that man gave me noogies and tickled my feet.”
Ahem.
Rough life, seriously. Handcuffed to a bed, at the mercy of the Seattle Grace team. Tough times. Raise your hand if you’d like to trade places?
Grey’s Anatomy returns all-new tonight on ABC. You grab the popcorn, I’ll get the handcuffs.
Wait, that came out wrong.
