Grey’s Anatomy Poll: What do you think of Callie/Erica?

by Ingrid Diaz on July 29th, 2008

We’ve talked a lot about the relationship between Callie and Erica, which began in last few episodes of season 4 and culminated with a kiss in the season finale. Spoilers and information regarding season 5 point strongly to the fact that the relationship will continue on next season, and while I’m a huge supporter of the storyline, I know that public opinion varies strongly on the topic.

So where do you fall in the spectrum of opinions regarding this particular relationship?

What do you think of Callie and Hahn?

im ok with the idea, i find it very interesting and cant wait till season 5 to see how it plays out. In all honesty Im not sure how i’d react to sex scenes if they have any which i know they will but i guess i’ll be cool with it. Callie and George were ok, Callie and Mcsteamy was hot, Callie and Erica hmm not sure, ive never seen erica in action before so i dont know what to expect.

I just want callie to be happy and in a stable relationship then again stable is boring, the drama is what makes this show worth watching.
Bad things always happen to callie but shes strong and i love her character + i like to see how she handles these situations. No matter what happens i’ll still watch the show.

Anything sexual but not heterosexual is usually rated more strongly than heterosexual sex on mainstream TV…
Basically don’t plan on seeing Erica and Callie doing the things we saw Callie and Mark doing. Gay people are expected to see heterosexuals having sex, but the street doesn’t go both ways. Don’t ya’ll worry, though ABC is finally doing some justice, they won’t be able to change the rating on the show for equality all around.

I think there should be another option… “Not buying into it yet, but remaining open to it.” I think there is a large part of the population that WANTS it to be a good pairing, but doesn’t think it is yet.

I am just waiting for Sara to do some press.

Ok. I DON’T like it. This is not a bashing of one sexual orientation over another; I just don’t like the idea that Callie has to be gay. I feel like she is one of the larger women on the show, and she already got pushed aside for a blonde by her husband, now she’s gay! Why can’t she be the one that makes McSteamy fall in love? Why can’t George start to see Callie like he use too? I just want her to prove that you can have a man fall over themselves for you just like they do for Izzie, Mer, Chris, and Addison. Hell, the crazy Jane Doe even had Alex wanting her. I think it is a little unfair. Why breakup her marriage just to make her bisexual or something? I just don’t really buy it. I can’t really get into. Maybe if she started off like that, but right now it just seems like a plot to get ratings.

So, it’s something lesser to be loved by a woman? Being with Erica means she’s not good enough to land McSteamy? You make it sound like she has feelings for Erica because it’s her only option and that being gay is not as good as being straight. She’s making a discovery that many people make in life.

OK! I am not saying that being with Erica makes her less desirable, or that being gay is less right. This is not reality. This is a show. On the show Callie has been through a lot. The episode a season or 2 ago when George made Izzie sound so wonderful hurt her. I simply wanted sweet revenge. If Callie and Erica had had a relationship before George I wouldn’t care. I just wanted to watch a little jealousy. Yes, George and McSteamy both can be jealous of Erica, I can see that, but I am just thinking about the character’s problems before hand. I wasn’t trying to lessen anyone’s importance or feelings. But the idea of Callie flaunting McSteamy just interested me because I was anticipating that. As for being gay being less than, I am not saying that. But there are a lot of stereotypes in this storyline too. And I know I am not the only one who feels that having Erica and Callie (2 of the larger women on the show) lesbians seems a little stereotypical. Also, to have Erica not be interested in McSteamy just because was funny, but now that she is gay it makes it seems as though that is the only reason a woman wouldn’t want to go to bed with him—stereotypical again. And lastly Erica has seemed like a man hater from jump and now that she’s gay it once again proves why. I am not against a gay relationship, but there are a lot of stereotypes following this one. That’s all. I’m not trying to offend anyone, it is just what I see. This is not gay vs. straight, I just wanted the storyline to be more consisted. If they were to put Callie with the Chief or Derek, I still wanted like it because it doesn’t fit the way I thought the character was going.

Yeah, wait till see Callie this year. Sara’s TINY!

I do get the stereotypical thing, but I have been a Callie lover since she said her first, “George O’Malley?” I have ALWAYS thought that Callie could be bisexual and if and when these characters get together, that will be the case. It’s not like they are suddenly dropping any attraction to men. They aren’t switching their entire identities. They are just two women who happen to find themselves attracted to each other. I am not crazy about this pairing. If Callie was going to venture into the land of the ladies, I had another in mind. (Damn you, Shonda!) I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.

Amber, what do you mean by tiny, can u show me a link to some recent pics? ur scaring me when u use the word ‘tiny’. I saw her on the view in may and she slimmed down a bit and was lookin real good i hope she hasnt lost that much weight. But i guess whatever makes her comfortable shes sexy no matter what she weighs.

Who did you have in mind btw for the pair up with callie, was it addison?

Callies my favourite 2 shes amazing and a great addition to the cast. Just think if it wasnt for her awesome performance in spamalot she wouldnt be here i cant picture anyone else playing the part of callie.

personally, i don’t see why this has become such a big deal. whatever, two of the characters became attracted to each other, both of them were women! big deal? no.
in fact it is sort of great that homosexuality is being introduced to one of the big series, it’s sort of taking a fall because of it but it’s still good. but really why is there SUCH a big deal??? are people THAT behind their times??? honestly, i thought society has passed that whole gay thing already but clearly it hasn’t!

i agree with Kenyetta and Amber. Callie looked good from the beginning. She added spice to what was the bland color of skinny blondes wh always dominate the small screen. I was so happy there was a Latina on the show who protrayed a Doctor and keep the Latina name…Torres. The writers must have writers block, or maybe they are thinking that big women are only good if they are married or alone. I know my home will not sit and watch the upcoming season if this continues. I will continue to urge other friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and so on to stop till they make this right. No money in GOD’s world is worth it! Are you listening Hahn and Callie???????????

I know that I can’t have everything my way when watching a show, but Callie’s character was the one that I could relate to. She was a little on the fringe, but had an excellent sense of self. A strong woman. Then came the whole George/Izzy debacle and the making her into a weak character. This angered me greatly. There is no reason that she should not have had the respect of the other interns…also when she was chief resident. I am sure that more than George’s friends would be in her charge. I did not like that at all. From the beginning I wanted her to be the one for McSteamy. He always went to her when he had questions. I especially liked the episode where he asked her if she thought he would be a good father. I could totally see the two of them getting together. So, I am anti-callie&erica because I really wanted her to have a relationship with McSteamy. I felt she was a strong woman who could totally handle McSteamy. I do not think the callie and erica relationship is less…it is just not what I wanted. I hate Izzie, don’t care about Der/Mer and since I am living overseas….doubt I will spend the money to download this from Itunes this year. I think I will watch Private Practice to get my hospital dramedy fix.

Hate it. I don’t care if they a gay storyline, but do we have to hear the details. McDreamy does not discuss the bases he has hit with Meredith, so I don’t need the details of Callie and Erica going down on each other. This shows airs at 9:00pm. I actually know teenagers who watch this show. I find the details completely inappropriate.

There is so much crap on tv. And you all have to get all pissed off over 2 women sharing there love for each other. I don’t understand what the deal is, a couple of weeks ago Callie was in bed with Sloan and everybody wasn’t freaking over that. I say if anyone can find someone to love and be attracted to, go for it. Those 2 woman are beautiful together. I’ve said this before and I will say it again. If ya don’t like what your seeing on Grey’s. Change the channel. There is enough of us Lesbians watching, we will keep the ratings up. My God, we have watched you straight people for years. It is our turn for once. And by the way. It is 2008 catch up!!!!!!

Ok. My opinion on Callie is my opinion. I am not anti anything. When I look at characters I like, I simply think about whom I want them to be with and how I hope their story line will be. This is not gay against straight. My opinion was not to start up one side against another. I am a larger woman and just like the idea that another larger woman could have the hot stud, just like I am sure a gay woman likes the idea of Callie and Erica. Do I really care about a lesbian story line? Not so much! I just care about Callie. She is one of my favorites and I wanted her with a hot guy. I am not ashamed of that, and it doesn’t make me prejudice. I want Bailey with her husband, Derek with Mer, and I wanted Chris with Burke. We all have our favorites. I am not going to apologize for not enjoying this story line (but I do apologize if I offended anyone). You can not like a gay couple on tv and still be pro-any relationship. I am also black and wouldn’t call a person racist if they didn’t like Burke and Chris together. Everyone has the preference. It is really funny how this has become us against them. Its not! It is a SHOW and these are only CHARACTERS. You can still support gay rights without liking two people together. I didn’t like Izzy and George either, and I’m not against blondes. I wanted George with his wife. Like I’ve said there are some people you want together, and others you don’t. Callie and Eric just don’t work for me.
