Grey’s Anatomy and the Emmys

by Ingrid Diaz on July 7th, 2008

Chandra_wilson_sandra_oh_01_spInformation has started leaking from the Emmy judges and the Los Angeles Times has managed to scoop up all the latest news and leaks from the Academy side of things. According to secret sources, while Grey’s Anatomy is certainly in the running for a Best Drama nomination, it’s apparently “on the bubble” and could be bumped out by either Lost or The Wire.

This is sad news for Grey’s Anatomy and Lost fans as I’m sure a lot of us would love to see both shows get a nod. But at the moment it’s looking like it’s an either or situation. However, it also looks like Grey’s Anatomy is the more popular choice for a nomination so it’s likely that the final nominations will be as follows:

1. Boston Legal

2. Damages

3. House

4. Grey’s Anatomy

5. Mad Men

For those of you that were hoping to see Friday Night Lights and/or Dexter in the final running, it’s unfortunately not going to happen this year.

In the Best Drama Actor category, Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey has landed a spot in the top 10 semifinalists list alongside Grey’s Anatomy guest star Kyle Chandler (for Friday Night Lights).

Over in the Best Actress category there’s no sign of Ellen Pompeo – per usual. But the supporting actress category does list both Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson as semifinalists. Chyler Leigh, Sara Ramirez and Brooke Smith were eligible but didn’t make the cut.

And in the Best Supporting actor category we have T.R. Knight proudly representing the males of Grey’s Anatomy.

Overall it’s looking like Grey’s Anatomy will have a good shot at being well-represented at the Emmys this year. The final list of nominees will be revealed on July 17th so we’ll see who makes the cut and who doesn’t. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a good turn out.

i was hoping sara would make the cut for that season 4 episode ‘heart of the matter’ where she confronts izzie or the part where she was telling this dude tht he didnt love his girlfriend “…because you dont destroy the person tht u luv…” i felt her pain in tht scene. but congrats to chandra and sandra i luv them all.

man I was really hoping Chyler would have made the cut, I think she has made a wonderful addition to show. Ahh, oh well-there’s always next year I suppose.
But congratulations to all the other castmembers and hopefully grey’s will win several awards.

Justin deserved to make the cut instead of TR. He was amazing with the material he was given especially in Freedom where he pretty much stole the show. It’s laughable that TR makes the cut when he didn’t have the performance this season to warrant being there. But this is all a popularity contest anyway and since TR was nominated last year he has the upper hand over Justin. Someone who also got snubbed was Ellen. She was in the Top 10 last year and this year she had another great season.

This is ridiculous! When are people going to acknowledge the amazing acting talents of Sara Ramirez???? Totally ticked off! Sara does not get the recognition she rightly deserves!!

thank u Leanne i feel the same way. She’s an amazing actress she’s like a chameleon u would never believe that this is the same girl who playd the lady of the lake in spamelot her transition from comedy to drama i mean the girl can do anything! She has amazing talent and I really hope she shines in season 5, i also hope they have like a kareoke scene at joes or something she has an amazing voice. Its good to know that she was being considered/ eligible thats a start so maybe she’ll get a lil sumn sumn next yr depending on the material she’s given.

im happy for the grey’s stars who made it even if its not final yet. im sad for ellen pompeo.. among all of the cast, she is the one who deserve an award. season would mean nothing without the extra effort of ellen putting everything in reality. she acts so well. i hope in the final list, ellen would be one even if as a nominee only. if not, there’s something wrong with how emmey judge..
