Grey’s Anatomy Writers Not Happy With Katherine Heigl’s Comments
Yesterday I posted about Katherine Heigl withdrawing her name from candidacy for Emmy nominations and a few of you have commented with your thoughts regarding her comments. Some feel that Katherine Heigl is a hero for stepping down from the Emmys and others feel that her comments, particularly the one in which she said, “I do not feel I was given the material this season to warrant the nomination,” was insensitive to those working for Grey’s Anatomy.
Well, according to a Grey’s Anatomy insider, the writers aren’t taking the comment very well. One told Entertainment Weekly, “The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material? It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”
I can’t say I fault the writers for feeling slighted. Perhaps Katherine Heigl didn’t mean to offend, but I have a feeling that she knew what she was saying when she said it. As someone commented, perhaps this is just Heigl’s way of trying to get out of her contract. I can’t think of any other reason why she would risk offending the writers.
This doesn’t bode well at all for the Izzie storylines in the future, unless Heigl apologizes in a believable fashion and makes nice.
Does this ordeal change your feelings for the actress at all?

I’m just afraid that this conflict can ruin the future seasons of GA. Can you imagine it without Izzie??? It’s just impossible.
But if stupid words of Katherine are able to influence writers, more people from cast can use such a trick to get out of their contracts. And I definitely wouldn’t like that…

Never really understood all they hype about her anyway. I was never that impressed with her acting or her comments. She always came off as self absorbed to me. Sorry folks…I am not one of her biggest fans.

I just think it’s kind of interesting because she was an avid supporter of the writers during the writers strike last year. Shouldn’t that support continue now that they are back to work… and so is she? Just a thought.

I really think that everyone is reading way to far in to this one comment. I can understand both sides of this issue. I realize that the comment could ruffle feathers with the writers but you all have to realize that Izzie was not in the spotlight this season. The writers decided to expand on other character’s story lines… and with a cast as large as Grey’s not everyone is going to have the big story line. Izzie’s character has grown over the first three seasons, now it is time for us to learn more about other characters such as Alex, Dr. Baily, etc. I think she said what she said and now it is time for everyone to move on.

She sucks and that’s the bottom line..I think everyone is looking right where they should look. She is totally ungrateful to the people that made her famous and she has continued to be a huge bitchy cry baby.

There is a rumor going around that Katherine Heigl wants out of Greys Anatomy. I hope thats not the case because this show made her big, and if she quits we can probably kiss the show goodbye. I should also mention the fact that before this show I did not even know who she was (the first episode I saw her in I thought “I think I saw that girl on a family channel movie”. She is a terrific actress, and for her comment she made to the writers she should remember what she said after what Isaiah Washington said at the Emmys.

Get rid of IZZIE!!!! KH is not the great actress SHE thinks she is by any stretch of the imagination. (Her films are really blockbusters, aren’t they?? Kate Hepburn, she’s not!) There are many other really talented people in the cast, an ENSEMBLE cast, dear Katie, with equal opportunity for ALL the actors and actresses. There should be no room for an actress who thinks she is above the rest. (The emmy she won was probably bought and paid for, anyway.) Yes, definitely, get rid of her. She contributes nothing!! Nothing!!

I do believe that we shouldn’t judge her for what she has said. To be honest, who know the real reason why she decide to refuse the Emmy. Yes, Izzie is not the lead character this season. Which will be suck if she happily accept the nomination when she know that she doesnt deserve it. Accept it that Izzie lead on the half of season 2 and season 3. And season 4 ? The spotligh hast moved to Dr Bailey and Dr. Yang. Even if Ellen Pompeo got the nomination, it will be weird.

Boy, isn’t she full of herself? Sounds pretty whiny and self-serving to me…
I personally think she doesn’t even deserve to be nominated for an Emmy, because in my opinion, the other actors on the show are far, far more talented. I was thoroughly disgusted when she got the Emmy last year, because in my opinion, Cristina Oh was slighted in a big way! Ms. Oh CAN act, and I think SHE did a stupendous job. Izzie seemed to do nothing but whine and cry and stomp her feet to get what she wanted most of the season, whereas Cristina was a very complex, multi-dimensional, torn individual. And yet the former got the Emmy?
It seems way too many are still blinded by that blonde-haired, blue-eyed sweet-sweeming (though not anymore) sterotype, and just glaze over the fact that her performances on GA have been, in my opinion, really not even close to the others in that group!

GA still needs Izzie… it can’t move to a new season when it ever they decide to drop her off.

I honestly believe that the comment made by Katherine Heigl is being misinterpreted as rude and insensitive. I can understand the confusion; however, I believe that the comment was made from a very modest place. Katherine probably believed that her nomination was more deserving to another actor whose supporting role made a larger contribution to the storyline of the show. I do not think that she said what she said to be arrogant. I think the media really manipulates the words of others in order to stir up controversy.

People are really bugging! She is just giving her opinion just like all of you are doing. Its called “Freedom of speech”, this is America. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. She is a good character on the show. If she is trying to leave the show then I am excited to see who they bring in next.
