Grey’s Anatomy News

The Future of Callie and Hahn

by Ingrid Diaz on May 23rd, 2008

Shonda_rhimes_02_spLast night’s episode set the stage for quite a few romances on Grey’s Anatomy. In the upcoming months I hope Shonda blesses us with some hints as to what’s to happen with MerDer, Izzie/Alex, Lexie/George and of course, Callie/Hahn. Well, Shonda has already spoken to Hollywood Insider about the future of the Callie/Hahn relationship and for all of you Hallie fans, the news looks good.

In an interview with EW.com “Callie and Erica have an undeniable chemistry,” says Rhimes. “And watching the story unfold is something the writers are looking forward to. I wanted to illuminate their relationship in the same way we do all relationships on the show — it will be funny, sweet, honest, and a little bit dirty.”

The article at EW.com also has a quote from Brooke Smith (Hahn) regarding Hahn’s “coming out.” It looks like the Callie/Hahn relationship developed despite the fact that both Shonda and Smith had agreed making Hahn a lesbian was “too obvious.” She said, “Dr. Hahn decided she wasn’t going to have a relationship at work, though clearly she came to the wrong hospital.” So true!

Looks like we’ll be seeing more of that relationship, and I, for one, can’t wait. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Grey’s Anatomy writers do with all of these love stories come next season. Undoubtedly there will be some big drama. Hopefully not too much. These poor characters – MerDer in particular - have suffered enough.

Bring on Season 5!

I so totally agree. I am very much looking forward to what the future holds for Callie & Hahn and all the characters for that matter. The finale was great.

The unfolding of the relationship between Callie and Hahn is such a great thing not only for the lesbian community but for those people who may not realize that love comes in all forms and all shapes and sizes.

I want to thank the writers and ABC for having the courage to let 2 people fall in love and not play to stereotypes or cliches. They just let two people fall in love without worry of sex or what the rest of the world would think.

Yes!! Thank you!! Viva… Callica, is it? That kiss beat out MerDer last night, for sure. I hope Grey’s has the potential to move this relationship to the dynamic of a functional (or as close as Grey’s will allow) relationship independent of the fact that it’s two women like Shonda says; a feat that many shows struggle with and often fail to achieve.

They’re hot. Callie is finally coming over to our wonderful side. Now all we need to do is get Sara Ramirez to come out…

Amen to all of the above. Love it, can’t wait for next season. Shonda & co. earn huge points in my book for this storyline, for writing and presenting Callie & Hahn’s budding relationship realistically.

I definitley agree with rach…sara is so yummy! I have been hoping for this since Erica came to Seattle Grace. I just hope that the writers don’t shy away from this relationship. Can’t wait to see what happens next. They are definitely my new favorite couple. Hottest kiss of the night by far!

It was repulsive to see that as I was channel flipping. I couldnt believe it! There are so many homosexual innuendos in nearly every show on tv. Clearly against God’s law about men lying with men or visa versa. Societys morals have been desensitized over the years so that the majority of people accept anything! Even things against bible morals. Look into it ABC

Shayne, you are entitled to your opinion, and although I am offended by your comment, I will not engage in a war of words with you.

You were channel flipping and not actually watching the show, so you didn’t see the context for the one scene you witnessed, and you can’t judge an entire series based on casual viewing.

Gay and lesbian people are normal, equal members of society, and they are finally being represented as such on television. If you don’t like what you see, simply change the channel.

I am glad that i get to give my thoughts on this relationship between the 2 ladies. Just becuse the real world is allowing the gays to do things that is not naturel why do we need to put it on out tv. We are allowing this into the minds of so many people and, when we all get to Heaven and the lebos and gays are burning in hell cause of their sins we will see if it is so hot then (oh it will be hot alright but not the hot you want it to be. I am not longer a Greys Antomy Viewer and if you who agree with that stop watching maybe things will change

    Lorelei,

Homosexuals are people, just like everyone else. They only want to love whoever they want, and saying they are going to hell is hateful. You are only spreading your hate when they did nothing wrong to you. Maybe if people were more accepting of others the world would be a better place.

I think they are a great couple.

To all thoses people who have negative comments about the gay kiss stop watching two people are allow to fall in love. Regardless of sex I think what happened between the two of them is beautiful. I wish I could only experience half of what those two do in their love for one another. Cheers to Grays Anontomy

It will be good for the world to see the ratings Grey’s Anatomy gets in Season 5. Shonda has taken the time to contact GLAAD and Brooke and Sara are on board and this relationship will be done right.
Ellen Degeneres coming out on her sitcom in 97 nearly killed show, it died several years later. TV viewers weren’t ready yet, but her work is not in vain. Over 10 years later, a whole new generation has grown up and the world IS CHANGING. A few truly angry fans stopping watching Grey’s Anatomy is not going to make enough of a dent to even compare with the millions of gay people that now consider watching Grey’s Anatomy because of the Callie/Erica relationship, who are more inclined to buy the DVD’s, or who may even watch on a more regular basis. Shonda and the other Grey’s head honchos knew what they were doing going into this, and they know that there will be some angry people.
Most importantly, they are willing to do the right thing. Civil unions and same-sex marriage wasn’t a part of American law 10 years ago, and now there are several states with these laws and many more countries with gay marriage.
Remember kids, the biggest threat to marriage isn’t more marriage, its divorce!

Clearly against God’s law about men lying with men or visa versa. Societys morals have been desensitized over the years so that the majority of people accept anything! Even things against bible morals. Look into it ABC. this is worth repeating. Just as you people on the other side feel you have an opinion, well…DO NOT FORGET WE HAVE ONE TOO!!! Gross, nasty and utterly shameful.

The most unbelievable aspect of Grey’s is the writing. If the intellect is not enlightened by grace it falls on it’s face. Instead of believable dynamics, Grey’s writer’s take shortcuts that weaken the credibility of the story lines and dilute the characters making them translucent and barely there. Deadlines propel these poorly written characters and their improbable lives forward robbing us of what could be a brilliant saga of flawed human beings with great depth and believable lives.
If you went to a famous five star restaurant and ordered an exquisite chocolate dessert only to be served a tootsie pop, what would you do?
    I know what I’d do. I’d leave.
What’s most tragic here is that young people the world over who’ve become addicted to the show will emulate the fictitious lives of these characters believing that casual sex with numerous people, relationships beginning at the end of the book and work backward will fill that empty space in their hearts. What it does is strip them of opportunities to have honorable relationships in which they feel valued, respected,
    and truly, truly loved.
    I am so disappointed.

Why is it that we who do not believe in the same sex relationship have to see all this sin on the TV. Yes gays and Lesbians are people, and they need to be treated like people, but they should not be able to have the same rights that a man and a woman getting married. And to put it on the TV for all of us to see, what is that all about, Stop Spoon dthis life style one everyone, cause I can tell you that not everyone wants to see it, infact most people in this world do not like the homosexual lifestyle.
