Canada’s Magnetic North is a traveling theatre festival that bounces around different Canadian venues and spreads thespian joy and magic to the masses.
Among its many features, the festival also includes a conference entitled “Magnetic Encounters.” And who should be a guest speaker? The lovely Sandra Oh. She’ll be joining several other celebrities that you may or may not have heard of.

Shonda Rhimes is Blogging the Scripps National Spelling Bee
May 29, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
For those of you who wonder what the esteemed Grey’s Anatomy creator, Shonda Rhimes, does in her downtime, here’s one of the things: every year she blogs about the Scripps National Spelling Bee over at A List of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago.
In her latest entry she wrote that she gets “giddy” around this time of year because she gets to take a break from being a grown-up and gets to wear her PJs. She quips that she’s gotta work this year so she’ll be going to work in flannel pajamas. “Awkward for everyone who works with me but I will not be swayed by fashion or rules or decorum.”
Gotta love that Shonda.
Hopefully she’ll be hard at work on the fifth season of Grey’s Anatomy. It’s nice to be anxiously awaiting another season. So many months to go!
Anyway, if you’re an avid stalker-of-Shonda, the Throwing Things blog is another place you can find her.
Happy Bee-ing!

Patrick Dempsey Makes Men’s Vogue June Cover
May 25, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
Patrick Dempsey made the June cover for Men’s Vogue magazine, in which they ask the eternal question: Why is Patrick Dempsey (America’s Most Watched Fake Doctor) Addicted to Speed?
Hm. I’m assuming that they’re talking about speed as in car racing and not speed as in the drug. I hope, anyway.
As always, McDreamy is looking very dreamy on the cover, sporting a white suit and a hint of a smile, so be sure to check the issue out at a magazine rack near you or subscribe via the Men’s Vogue website.

Dissecting the Metaphors in Season 4 of Grey’s Anatomy
May 25, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
Last month I posted about the book Grey’s Anatomy: An Unauthorized View from the Other Side by Anne Dawes & Helen Dina. The authors take a deeper look at the world of Grey’s Anatomy, exploring the plethora of metaphors and hidden meanings that abound in Seattle Grace. With the conclusion of season 4, the authors have also updated the Inside the View page at their main site. The update features insight into the Meredith/Derek relationship and the many ways in which the clinical trial was a metaphorical representation of their struggles toward love.
With the many lonely months ahead both the site and the book provide great food for thought.
Grey’s Anatomy Poll: What pairing are you most excited about?
May 24, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
The end of season four has left us with quite a few potential couples to mull over during the months to come. Meredith and Derek seem to have worked things out. Callie made a move on Hahn. Izzie comforted Alex. The Chief went back to his wife. And Lexie looks like her feelings for George extend beyond the friendship arena. What’s to happen with all of these couples? Only Shonda knows for now.
In the meantime, here’s a new poll! Feel free to discuss your choices in the comments.
The Future of Callie and Hahn
May 23, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
Last night’s episode set the stage for quite a few romances on Grey’s Anatomy. In the upcoming months I hope Shonda blesses us with some hints as to what’s to happen with MerDer, Izzie/Alex, Lexie/George and of course, Callie/Hahn. Well, Shonda has already spoken to Hollywood Insider about the future of the Callie/Hahn relationship and for all of you Hallie fans, the news looks good.
In an interview with EW.com “Callie and Erica have an undeniable chemistry,” says Rhimes. “And watching the story unfold is something the writers are looking forward to. I wanted to illuminate their relationship in the same way we do all relationships on the show — it will be funny, sweet, honest, and a little bit dirty.”
The article at EW.com also has a quote from Brooke Smith (Hahn) regarding Hahn’s “coming out.” It looks like the Callie/Hahn relationship developed despite the fact that both Shonda and Smith had agreed making Hahn a lesbian was “too obvious.” She said, “Dr. Hahn decided she wasn’t going to have a relationship at work, though clearly she came to the wrong hospital.” So true!
Looks like we’ll be seeing more of that relationship, and I, for one, can’t wait. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Grey’s Anatomy writers do with all of these love stories come next season. Undoubtedly there will be some big drama. Hopefully not too much. These poor characters – MerDer in particular – have suffered enough.
Bring on Season 5!

Grey’s Anatomy Discussion: 4.16/4.17 “Freedom”
May 22, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
Well, the day is upon us. The two-hour season finale of Grey’s Anatomy is only a few hours away. Are you excited? Are you bouncing from anticipation? I know I am!
I’m opening up a discussion thread so we can funnel all of our excitement about tonight’s episode into an easy to find place.
Last week I polled the Grey’s Anatomy News community to see who you thought the lucky couple would be partaking in the “major” and “unexpected” kiss we’ve been promised. Despite the comments stating that no way would it be Meredith and Derek it does seem like a vast majority of you do think MerDer will be it. Now, no doubt they’ll be locking lips in tonight’s episode, but are they really the major and unexpected kiss? Guess we’ll find out!
I’ll be posting a recap of the episode this weekend, so for those of you with no access to the episode check back here for the play-by-play. But of course do pass by after the episode to discuss the events of the finale; the good, the bad, the shocking … or perhaps the disappointing.

Grey’s Anatomy Season Finale Sneak Peek
May 20, 2008 by Ingrid Diaz
Only a few days remain before all of our questions are answered. Who will partake in the big, unexpected kiss? How will Meredith and Derek work things out? Will Izzie and Alex finally admit their feelings for one another? Will Callie realize she’s attracted to Hahn? And how will the doctors save a boy trapped in a hardening block of concrete?
I can’t wait to watch the two-hour season finale. But since we’ve got no choice but to wait, here are a couple of sneak peeks to help battle the anticipation.
Sneak Peek 1: The battle for the Sparkle Pager
Sneak Peek 2: “Really Big Trauma”
Is it Thursday yet?
