Shonda Rhimes Promises Fun Times in Grey’s Anatomy

In what should be to most fans a great relief, Shonda Rhimes recently told the Associated Press that Grey’s Anatomy will be returning to “its fun roots”.
Yes, please!
Despite the fact that Rhimes believes that the writers went in the direction the show was meant to go, she recognizes that sometimes fans don’t agree with the creative choices of the powers that be. She does hope (naturally) that we all stick around to watch it. She blames part of the general fan unhappiness on the Isaiah Washington ugliness, but I stand by the fact that a lot of it had to do with the writing.
So what’s to come next season? Only Shonda Rhimes knows, and I doubt she’s going to tell us. But I’m all for the back to the fun roots idea, as I really miss the genius that was season one.
But there’s this to look foward to:
As for “Grey’s Anatomy,” Chyler Leigh joins the show as Meredith’s sister Lexi, a new intern Seattle Grace, but as TV Guide reports don’t expect her to fall into McDreamy’s arms. At least not immediately.
Yeah, I’m sure the fun roots will not be devoid of angst and drama. I suppose it wouldn’t be Grey’s Anatomy otherwise.

I feel the same as peyton. season 3 was hard- painful- to watch at times. with mer and der splitting up.
i know everyone is saying this, but if watching the first few episodes with mer der splitting up, i will have to stop watching. there are other things on tv thursday nights.

It was such a HUGE relief to hear that Lexie would be with Alex and not with Derek………and it made me feel so much better about Mer/Der…so why are all the comments now ending with…..Lexie will not be with Derek right away or not in the immediate future or not right now….WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? Who wants to see Mer/Der finally get back together AGAIN and then know that it is just temporary because Lexie will end up with Derek!!The thoughts of that makes ME SICK!!
Okay… I am very relieved that Lexi won’t be with Der… I love him and Mer together! But I have something to say… why did everyone hate third seaon so much? I personally LOVED it!! I mean, sure it was dark but I thought it was one of the strongest seasons yet. I’m glad this season will be more upbeat but I just want Shonda Rhimes to know that I loved third season and thought it was totally appropriate to have a darker season… keep up the grreat work!
i hope Mer/Der stay together!!! i will still watch the show but idk….. it wont be the same if they arent together!!!

Why can’t they have a fun season with Meredith and Derek together? It can be done …and please, not Derek with Lexie or I know I will be ‘done’!
im glad to hear that she realizes fans were disappointed by the way season 3 ended. and as for mcdreamy falling into lexi’s arms IT BETTER NOT HAPPEN. that would be the worst. dereck and meredith are meant to be together, and thats the way it should be. the end. as for christina, im pretty sure shes gonna be even more cynical this season, now that burke is gone. and izzy and omally, oh goodness. we have a lot to look forward to hopefully.

I agree, too. But I won’t be watching next season without Burke in the show. He was too good to let go and I still feel he was given a raw deal. They used him all year, making him jump through hoops for them, so they could end the season without messing up the story line, and then they fire him! If it was such a moral outrage what he said, why didn’t they fire him right away. I don’t think I can stand to watch TR Knight anymore. I think he lied about what really happened.
I miss Dr. Burke too!! I love his character and his romance with Christina. I hope that they have him in at least one episode just to have a “closure” to his character.

I will miss Burke. The IW scandal had nothing to do with the poor reaction to season 3 and Shonda knows it. It’s just convenient to blame her bad choices and the bad writing on a person who is now gone. I’m assuming IW didn’t write the script for season 3, so putting the blame there is just silly.
Burke was a strong character. At times his relationship with Yang was the only “real” storyline she had going. Whatever he did and said off-screen, his character will leave a huge hole that will be hard to fill. I mean really, who is left – man-candy McSteamy, Alex, wishy-washy McDreamy and Bambi-George? Let’s face it: Burke was the only strong man in the group.
i really really really really hope meredith and dereck will end up together,and i really really really hope lexi won’t fall into his arms…if that happens i surely ain’t watching anatomy any more…and i’ll cry
K- the whole back and forth w/ Meredith and Derek needs to end. Since the beginning they’re on and off again. Either put them together HAPPY and content or don’t. I love Grey’s Anatomy but Meredith is just so whiney anymore. And just pull her hair away from her face already. No wonder Derek is off flirting with other girls. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved Meredith and Derek together since the very beginning and I would love to see Meredith and Derek STAY together. But just make a decision already. It’s pretty clear everyone wants to see them together.
pls make mer/der get back together… life itself hAS so many heartbreaks…. at least watching the show may lighten up our own lives by seeing them happy together….

i agree with blondie. When things like this happen all im thinkig is “yessss! more drama for the next couple of episodes”
With the callie/hahn thing u should see all the ultimatums these “fans” are giving shonda and im like ppl please just let the writers make the decisions and do what they want its a drama series for a reason and happy endings = less drama. The plot needs twist like these to keep u watching and leave you wanting more.
Once meredith and derek get together and marry or whatever there chapter of the story will be over and you will get bored with them and thats a fact. You’ll get all excited when it happens and then next week you’ll be saying “so aam what happens next?”
Then again its not all about merder for me so if they get there happy ending theres like 8-9 more characters to focus on. This is the only show where im completely in love with every single character, i think they have the best cast ever, its so easy to fall in love with them.
let me tell you i started watching the show In MAy and i caught the last four episodes of season 4 starting with ” the becoming”. That was the first time ive ever sat and watchd a whole episode of greys.
At that time my favourites characters were callie mainly and erica, sloan and chandra. then when that season was over i went online and decided to watch season 4 from the beginning. When i started i realized that ‘hey wait a second callie was married to george…are u serious?!’, so then i backtracked to season 2 to that episode where callie was introduced (what have i done to deserve this).
By the time i finished season 2 and 3 i fell in love with all the characters not just callie anymore so i watched everything again from season 1.
And thats my story. In 3 weeks i became an obsessed greys anatomy fan to the point where if you describe an episode i can tell you the name of it. I can qoute lines from almost every show…and just like everyone else i am dying to see season 5. The only thing left for me to do is get the dvds and watch the special features and extended stuffies etc…
So Shonda Rhimes is blaming the bad shows we saw on Grey’s Anatomy last year on “the Isaiah Washington ugliness.” Give me a break. The show lost it when they unjustly fired Isaiah. ABC know’s they made a big mistake when they fired him and they also know they can’t get him back. A lot of fans liked him and stopped watching because of him last year. I just hope ABC didn’t ruin his career.
