Isaiah Washington is ready to move on

by Sherry on June 18th, 2007

isaiah_washington180.jpgAccording to People Magazine, Isaiah Washington is just trying to move on after being let go, and is focusing on his day-to-day life.

One thing he’s focusing on is his involvement with the Gondobay Manga Foundation; Isaiah is the chairman of the foundation which seeks to help people in war-torn Sierra Leone. Then next month, he’ll be in Ghana for the African Union Summit, to discuss the future of Africa.

It sounds like he’s very busy for the next little while, and busy with very important matters. That should help take the sting out of losing his job.

(By the way, hi! I’m Sherry and I’m just filling in for a few weeks while Ingrid takes some well-deserved vacation time. I’m a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan and I’m thrilled to take the reins for a little while. I also write over at PittWatch, writing about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, so I’m pretty used to writing about celebrities and entertainment. I hope you’ll all enjoy my posts as much as I’ll enjoy contributing them!)

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I want to say “don’t let the door hit you on the bum on the way out,” but on the other hand, he did do a bunch of stuff to try to apologise and change. I think definitely he should have had to apologise and become more sensitive, no question about that. If someone had taken a crack at him, they would have gotten the same treatment.

I am so glad that he is gone! He was never a great actor on the program and his inflated ego rubbed his castmates the wrong way. All I can say as someone who watches the show is : “Free At Last! Free At Last! Thank God we are Free At Last!” :)

I’m not sure, if I should like that at all.
From time to time, everyone will make mistakes and okay maybe this was a real huge one.
But what matters is that you learn from them, he tried to apologise, he went to this programm.
I really thought that is worked out for the show.
But now it’s more like “He’s gone. I’m free, damn it.!”

I suspect letting go of Washington the “actor” and Burke the “character” had to do with more than we ever heard about. It was NOT a decision entered into lightly - Not on TV’s #1 show. It certainly wasn’t just on account of a gay slur - since when does big business care about the feelings of one gay employee?

The show is ruined for me for the loss of Isaiah Washington. The characters of Preston Burke and Christine were the best, most unpredictsable, non sacharrin thing on the show. I’m especially sorry he was made to jump through all those hoops before finally being given the guillotine in spite of it all. It makes no sense from a viewer’s perspective.
I would have traded Washington for four or five Knights in a heartbeat. A real dis-service to the fan base and the story universe. I’ll tune in wherever Isaiah goes. He’s a hell of an actor. He should have the support of a COURAGEOUS executive. He deserves it. Isaiah, thank you for the GREAT performances. I’ll watch you on the next show you get.

Since the last few days, I’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy from my DVD collection of Season 1,2 and half season 3 of GA…Since Dr Preston Burke was letting go that’s what I’ve been doing…watching him and Cristina and their kind of unique but sweet relationship…I really love and admiring them both…Burke and Cristina…How sad that Burke would not coming back for Season 4…Yeah, the show will survive, the show will go on even Isaiah Washington will move on…BUT one thing for sure, Grey’s Anatomy would not be the same without Dr Preston Burke…

LIFE MUST GO ON MR WASHINGTON…YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY SUPPORT…ALL THE BEST…I LOVE YOU!

I think the worst part of all this is that we have been lead to beleive that IW verbally attacked TR and PD came to save the day and now ABC is saving us from this bad bad man. When in all reality TR wasnt even on the set when the slur was made but very few people are mentioning that. Also every report i’ve seen says that IW blurted out the comment again for no reason at the GG”s and no one mentioned the fact that he was repeatedly asked if he made the statement and was responding to the questions. Despite all of that he stepped up and took the blame and tried to make amends. He has also been a gay rights advocate since waaaay before all of this. Seems to me ABC gave the wrong cast member a raise and left not only a good actor but a good person out in the cold. Good luck IW I for one will miss DR Preston Burke

I think they made a big mistake. Washinton was the best thing going for that show. He is a huge talent and will likely move on to become even a bigger star. I will not be watching in the fall.

I think this is pitiful. Can someone else use the race card as an excuse. I think it shows that you are a very weak individual. There are so many people today using that to fall back on and society is buying in to it or they have to. Our government and the cooperations are weakening. Wait a second, the next time something happens to me wrong or I think that i’m being mistreated i’m going to blame it on having to many freckles on my body. That must be the reason, they just don’t like people with freckles. Give me a break. Isaiah, suck it up, go do what it is you do and shut up with the ridiculous comments and stop wasting our time. Go do some more volunteer work in Africa or something. Maybe just move there since you love them so much and we won’t have to hear you anymore.

Life will go on.. but Everything Burke said about their relationship not being real and the fact that Christina has changed.. WAS TRUE. Watch her in season one and you will learn that she wasn’t soft… she was a go getter. And is season two when she tried to out do the Chief in the course they were taking.. She isn’t that competative anymore.. She had changed. I say bring back the old Christina.. It will be more interesting to see her build from the ground up than to see her in a marriage with Burke.. even if their love was “unique but sweet.” I say even if IW being fried was unfair.. the show will be stronger without him! Even if it suffers for a bit.

I’ve no doubt Shonda has a lot of plans up her sleave to reinvigorate the show next season.

I wish Washington WOULD just move on - I know he feels embittered by what happened but his constant interviews attacking coworkers and the Network are only making him look bad. I suspect he’s burning a few bridges and that’s never wise for an actor.

This is unbelievable. I thought the US had freedom of speech. Burke is one of the strongest characters in the show and his quite confidence has been an inspiration. To find out he’s being fired for something he said is unacceptable, what on earth has that got to do with his ability to do his job? It seem today in the US every single person has to be very careful about what they say because big brother wants to punish the evil doers. He should probably immigrate to communist China where he could speak his mind.
