Katherine Heigl Forgives Isaiah Washington
Katherine Heigl has recently stated in an interview with USA Today that she has forgiven Isaiah Washington for his homophobic slur against her friend and co-star T.R. Knight.
“I know that he was very ashamed and that was a necessary emotion to move forward and not backward,” the actress, 28, tells USA Today of Washington. “His attitude and behavior and thought process needed to change, and the only way to do that is to be self-aware and honest. And I think he was. I have forgiven.”
Of the entire incident, she says, “I was ultimately grateful that it opened up a dialogue. To me, I wasn’t making a political stand. I was making a stand about hurting people’s feelings. It’s very simple in my mind. You do not actively seek to hurt other people’s feelings. I don’t care what their sexual orientation, race or gender. You don’t do that.”

i think isaiah washington should be able to say what he wants. we should have freedom of speech. but instead we have freedom of speech but only if were not in public. wich is so annoying.

Isiah Washington can say what he wants. He didn’t need to back down, he chose to. Probably smart considering that he’d likely be hard pressed to find acting job after being on the record and unapologetic about making homophobic comments in Hollywood.
We all have the freedom of speech. No lawyer or law enforcement agency was after him for his comments. This was a private matter that was aired out and had sever business consequences for Isiah. He did the smart thing…I hope he also realizes that what he is doing is the correct thing to do.

Kelsy - I agree, we should all have freedom of speech. With that in mind, I’m sure you will not mind when I point out that you are a moron.
Assuming you are female, I hope you will encourage freedom of speech when some male co-worker refers to you as a c*nt or b*tch or wh*re in front of coworkers.
Get a grip - Washington was out of line in the workplace…. he can say what he wishes pretty much anywhere else, but we’re all entitled to a a workplace that is free of harrassment.

Kelsy, Isaiah DOES have freedom of speech, as evidenced by him not being arrested after making discriminatory and hurtful remarks. the public (and his co-workers) also has the freedom to think whatever they want of him as a result of his freely spoken words. He, as an actor, cares what the public thinks and CHOSE to try to make amends for his words so that his career wouldn’t suffer.
Are you saying that no one should care how horrible and hurtful his comments are because we have freedom of speech in America? If I were to make a racist (or sexist or whatever) remark about you, should you just forget about it because I have freedom of speech?

i think IsaiahW gives off a weird vibe…lil freaky…i do think he should cum bac…but i think Heigel just forgave him for more publicity…but then again she may be sincere.

I personally think that Ms. Heigl gives off “a weird vibe” and her reported comments regarding “forgiving” Mr. Washington were patronising, unnecessary and ill-timed.
