Grey’s Anatomy 3.24 “Testing 1-2-3″ Recap

by Ingrid Diaz on May 16th, 2007

Was I the only one who found last week’s episode a little boring? It had its moments, but overall I was kind of bored with the redundancy.

Here’s a quick recap of the events, in case you missed it:

The interns at Seattle Grace all studied hard for the intern exam. Despite Susan’s death in the previous week’s episode, and her father slapping Meredith in the face as a result, Meredith still insisted that she was fine to take the test. She planned to go to the hospital, then to Susan’s funeral, and then be back for the exam. Instead, her father showed up at the hospital and yelled at Meredith again and blamed her for Susan’s death, proclaiming to the entire hospital that Susan was all he’d had, and that Meredith was not welcome at the funeral.

Meanwhile, Burke tried to track down Cristina to announce that his best man couldn’t make it to the wedding, and to ask Cristina for her vows, which of course, Cristina hadn’t even thought about since it was test day and everything. Why, exactly, would two surgeons plan a wedding for the day after intern exam day? Burke had to know Cristina would be distracted by the exam and not give two flying monkeys over the wedding. The wedding, which by the way, she didn’t really want in the first place.

In the land of lost memories, Alex and Jane Doe chatted while playing with the baby. It was all cute and happy until Jane Doe accidentally let slip a reference to the life she wasn’t supposed to remember. She tried to cover it, but Alex didn’t want to let it go. Later in the episode, Alex confronted her and she admitted that she’d woken up and remembered everything. That she was married to a really nice but boring guy and had left him to pursue her own life. Alex wasn’t happy that she hadn’t revealed her memories sooner and worse yet that she didn’t want to contact her husband or tell anyone that she could remember everything. They argued back and forth, Alex walked out, Jane Doe looked conflicted, and then at the end of the episode she found Alex and revealed that her name is Rebecca Pope.

George got into Mercy West, and the only one who was happy about it was Callie. Izzie told him not to go, Bailey told him not to go, and I’m sure everyone else would’ve told him not to go if anyone else had addressed him about it. Eventually, Izzie told George that he wasn’t going anywhere, and that she didn’t care about him in that way, and that them sleeping together and stealing kisses in the elevator and looking soulfully into each other’s eyes didn’t mean anything. George looked like a spanked puppy, and Izzie went to cry in a closet.

Addison, depressed in the knowledge of her newfound infertility, got to deal with pregnant gay men (well… their surrogate mother, anyway), and even the Chief’s wife who turned out to be pregnant (with not the Chief’s baby). Poor Addison.

MerDer didn’t get a lot of action this episode. Meredith spent the entire episode being gloomy (with good reason). She even spaced out during her exam and wrote nothing. They shared a very awkward, decidedly unromantic ride in the elevator, which culminated with the doors practically slamming shut in McDreamy’s face.

In the face of no other choices, Burke asked McDreamy to be his best man. McDreamy was put to the challenge of throwing a bachelor party. Guests: McSteamy and Addison. It was a rockin’ good time.

Doctoring for the episode revolved around a group of hikers that fell from a mountain. The hikers spent the entire episode arguing about leaving their friend behind who hadn’t made it. It served as a nice metaphor for surprisingly pretty much every other storyline in the episode. Of course, at the end of the episode, the left-behind friend was rushed into the ER with an axe through his head. Not sure what that was meant to stand for … lol

Callie and Addison shared a nice moment where Addison revealed that the entire world was pregnant but her, and Callie revealed that she was thinking of having children. Because it made perfect sense, after spending several episodes watching her husband skirt around his feelings for another woman, that getting pregnant would be a wise move. Despite the wtf-ness of Callie’s thinking, I really loved the exchange between the actresses.

Back at the house o’interns, we had the scene from the sneak peek I posted yesterday. Cristina worked on her vows, Izzie made thinly veiled references to her feelings for George, which Callie caught, Meredith mistook, and Cristina used as inspiration.

At Joe’s bar, where the bachelor party was happening, Addison and McSteamy agreed to be friends. McDreamy got hit on by Chyler Leigh, who could very well turn out to be Meredith’s sister (but who knows). And the surrogate mother (Joe’s and his boyfriend’s), passed out.

At the hospital, the Chief ran into his wife who made a bee-line for the women’s bathroom to avoid him. She very much didn’t want him to know that she was pregnant, naturally. The Chief gave a cute, charming monologue to the door, but Adelle didn’t reply. Eventually, he wandered in to find her passed out on the floor. It was kind of an ironic moment, what with the Chief of Staff kneeling on the floor, yelling, “Somebody help me!” in his own hospital and no one coming.

Looking forward to the season finale. Well, in a please-no-not-a-whole-summer-without-Grey’s sort of way.

mer didn’t misunderstand izzie when she was talking about george and said, ‘you’re talking about denny, right?’. she was covering because she saw the look on callie’s face.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the “left behind” hiker that was brought into the ER at the very end is going to turn out to be Jane Doe’s husband. Just an idea…

I hate the George and Izzie storyline VERY boring. Izzie is so annoying, she didn’t “love” George until after he got married. As for Callie, she could do much, much better.

WOW. The finale has already aired here in Canada… and all I can say is WOW.

    Just WOW.

    ((((SPOILER ALERT))))))

Chief of Surgery will remain Dr.Weber
    Cheif of Residents; Callie

    Derek and Meredith : DUNZO
    Christina and Burke : DUNZO
Alex and Eva (Rebecca) : DUNZO

And George… poor George… failed his exam. His two choices were to re-do his first year internship, or leave. He chose to leave.

Oh yeah, and we meet the new interns that are going to be first year next year. And one of them is named Grey……

I don’t think Derek and Meredith are through, i think they want us to think that. I also think George failed the test on purpose so he didn’t have to transfer to Mercy because they said it was final as long as he passed the test.

The inability of Meredyth to trust, and show dedicated love is a problem for many people. It is something that can be overcome with therapy, and a dedicated and patient partner. However, DrMcdreamy may not be able to wait for an unspecified time. Sad but true
