Grey’s Anatomy Behind-the-Scenes Drama Continues
It’s quite amazing how well Grey’s Anatomy manages to keep themselves in the headlines week after week, isn’t it?
Well the latest on behind-the-scenes drama is that Katherine Heigl is ending contract talks and feels “disappointed and hurt” that her salary is not as high as fellow co-stars’ Sandra Oh’s and Isaiah Washington’s.
Okay. I can certainly see why Sandra Oh’s salary would be higher. She is, after all, a two-time Emmy Nominated Actress with a plethora of awards under her belt, including a Golden Globe. But Isaiah Washington? Why?
ABC has no comment on the subject, but the news of the contract talks comes from a source for People Magazine.

Katherine was Golden Globe nominated and if anything her salary should be higher than both. She is far more marketable and has a much higher profile. When do you see the other two on the cover of any magazines…never. I mean are ABC trying to kill their entire male audience as well? First Kate now Katie? Geez.
In my opinion not only would they be losing the best reason to watch the show they would also be losing their best actress.
I will stop watching in a heartbeat if Heigl leaves.

seriously? seriously?? i love Izzy/Katherine Heigl and if she leaves and they replace her with someone else it won’t be the same. how can this happen? Addison is leaving for her own show and now maybe izzy too? are they trying to break our hearts. i mean i’m not a huge fan of addison but i do like her being on the show and if they re-cast izzy it won’t be right - i can’t see anyone else playing her. i really hope something can be done to change her mind.

This is getting pathetic. Greys is the best show on TV and now all you hear about it is negative publicity. Izzie is a fundental character in the show who in my opinion is one of the best actresses on GA…they cannot loose her. If they have to do a pay cut on someone to give her the money she wants take it from Isaiah Washington…I fear Greys is slowing going down the tubes :(

Really come on! Who cares - I love the show more than anything but egos I can’t handle and really one person does not make the show - if kathern leaves so be it! I am kinda getting tired of her character anyway - her salary should probably be raised because of her experience but she does not make the show.

Heigl was a little known actress before GA. Unlike Oh and Washington, she has had to build a name for herself. She’s no more important to the cast than every other cast member. If she leaves men will still watch…it’s a good show. She is seen on more magazines for her own benefit-not GA’s.

I beg to differ on little known actress. She was one of the leads on a show on TV called Roswell ( lasted for a while) She was on The Bride of Chucky, My Father the Hero, Under Seige 2 and if I am correct she was a model for Sears catalog and I think had a contract w/ a modeling agency. There are other movies she was in but I can’t think of them right now.
I think she does a great job w/ Izzy but I read that she had a contract that binds her into three more years anyway with GA. Everyone on the cast needs to take their egos off the pedestal and just be real! Seriously!

ON MARCH 15 GREY’S ANATOMY IS ON AT 8:00 AND UGLY BETTY IS ON AT 7:00. THERE IS A NEW PILOT AT 9:00. I AM NOT SURE THAT THIS WILL LAST BUT JUST TRY TO REMEMBER SO YOU DON’T MISS IT.

I just can’t IMAGINE what some people have against her.
Funny how some people think that a cast member who slurs another on the basis of sexual orientation should stay put, while another who has done nothing to anyone should go.
Seems to me the real racists in this matter are pretty clear - and several of them comment regularly on this blog.

The reason why Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington are paid more is due to their acting credentials on television and film. If you look up Sandra and Isaiah’s work on http://www.imbd.com you will find that they both have far more experience than Katherine Heigl. It’s like Corporate America…if you have more experience you typically get paid more. Katherine is a bit arrogant to think she warrants a salary equal to Sandra and Isaiah. C’mon…The Bride of Chucky was a “B” movie and she did Under Seige 2 when she was just 16. Oh has appeared in Sideways and Under the Tuscan Sun and Isaiah in several Spike Lee films including Get on the Bus. Bottom line is Oh and Washington deserve to get higher salaries. Heigl deserves a raise too, just not parallel to Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, or Isaiah Washington and if she quit the show I’d still watch.

Excellent Jett,I believe your comment embodied the TRUE reason,that she doesn’t get the same salary as the veteran actors.She’s not the star(Pompeo),she’s not a very experienced actress(Oh,Dempsey,Washington,Pickens Jr.),and really not all that great of an actress.Her biggest problem seems to be that she is haughty,and thinks that because some people think she is cute,that means she should get paid as much as someone who’s BRINGING celebrity to the table.I didn’t watch Roswell,so before Grey’s i honestly NEVER heard of her,I started watching the show because James Pickens Jr,who i admired in his role on The X-Files,was playing the part of Chief,and Isaiah Washington had signed on..so i knew the show had something to it.When i saw Sandra Oh was in it(who i loved in Sideways,btw)it was a go.The rest of the cast is okay too,i remember seeing Dempsey around in movies before this also.Probably my favorite character on the whole show is Chandra Wilson,i love the many layers to her character,she really took this role and ran away with it.As far as Katherine is concerned though,she’s cute-n-all,but the”Denny Duqette”thing dragged on a little too long,i found myself sighing ALOT during her sequences with him,she’s just not that interesting when she talks…even though T.R.’s character get’s a little annoying at times when he hams up the”angsty”thing too much,i can actually watch his sequences because he’s a pretty good actor overall,he can use slight facial expressions to communicate the subtleties behind what his character should be thinking at that moment.In the end though,the reason that she(Kate Heigel)doesn’t get paid as much,is simply because she’s not as talented as the rest,and that’s what they cast her as:The obligatory”Hot Chick”,that’s smarter than she looks”,and because she is cast as that,people don’t really expect her to be that good of an actress(see Jessica Alba)…I doubt seriously she’s going to leave Grey’s,if she does,she’s just going to fade into obscurity as before..but if she did want to get out of her contract,Shonda should go ahead and have her sign a”No-Work”clause which states that she is not allowed to take acting jobs within a certain timeframe after she leaves,and she’s not allowed to associate her name with the show anymore after her departure.

this opinion is for the producers—I watched the episodes 1-3 on dvd here in nigeria. I wonder why the producers let the character of burke slip by cristina.no good chick lets go of package that comes with a best heart surgeon and a husband.I expected cristinas role to be more complicated and tasking that almost broke her down for a beverlyhills brought girl.take for instance a storyline thatwill get viewers glued.- get a fellow Doctor - who knows her onions from burkes past wants him back as she sees that cristina is slacking in looking after her man the way she believes he ought to be and burkes mom is sly on this matter.only for cristina to fight back when she lets in a new side of her that even burke didnot reliase that she never lets go of her wins. when she discovers that burke is going to be a father of twins she plays hard to get and coupled with her ability to be on top of her intending career she isnt going give up burke.create a scene where burke has to choose between his mom,old flame and cristina(and her 28weeks babies. izzies part is getting a bit tiring as one can guess what she will do. -As of omalley,there is something about his character that doesnt just click right in his part especially being protrayed as one who didnt fit growing up.
my advice is find a new way of bringing washington back to the show,think of something ,this is business..the way you guys are going you will have to put in more effort to break even on his part.am sure that having in on season 5 will give a new twist.just my opinion from nigeria
