Meredith Isn’t Going To Die
Okay, I don’t know this for sure, and this isn’t due to the plethora of spoilers saying that she won’t … I just don’t see how she could. And here’s why:
Killing Meredith would be the end of the show. She’s the title character. She already survived a bomb explosion. Why not this too? Besides, they need her for next year’s arc where they put her in a different sort of peril just to make our hearts stop in our throats. (Heh)
I don’t think Meredith is going to die.
The death of Meredith would signify - to me at least - the very end of Grey’s Anatomy, and I’d hope that they’re not ready to hang the show out to dry. Killing off main characters never bodes well for ratings beyond the “OMG!” episode.
According to the poll, 281 of you agree that it would ruin the show. I just hope Shonda doesn’t read this and go “Oh you don’t think I’d kill her off huh? MUAHAHAHAHAHA.”
And then two weeks from now Meredith gets hit by a bus…
(Don’t do it Shonda).
What do you think?

George is supposed to be leaving the show, so I am putting a guess out there that Meredith will NOT be the one dying… George will.

there is no way that meredith can die. All I can say is that they should probably remove the credits from this show, because 1000000000 american women will be hunting the writers down to yell at them. haha

I’ve never blogged before. And I realize, there isn’t much which now separate me from the “Dungeons and Dragons” people. However, in an effort to believe that our beloved program is not renamed “Grey’s Autopsy”– I did a bit of digging. Medical Research-type digging. And, I feel a bit of hope. I wish to pass that hope onto all you other, Thursday night “Trekkies”
Per the Merck Manual’s definition of Hytpothermia: “Immersion in cold water can trigger the diving reflex, which involves reflex vasoconstriction in visceral muscles; blood is shunted to essential organs (eg, heart, brain). The reflex is most pronounced in small children and may help protect them. Also, hypothermia due to total immersion in near-freezing water may protect the brain from hypoxia by decreasing metabolic demands. The decreased demand probably accounts for the occasional survival after prolonged cardiac arrest due to extreme hypothermia.”

Well I think Mer will be saved and that her mom in turn will die….why have her mom in the previous shows if there is no plot twist!!!

I just hope they don’t let her die. I will still watch the show, and even though it could go on without her, i don’t want it to. She is a huge part of the show and it just wouldn’t be the same without her. I think Denny and the bomb guy will each have different opinions. Maybe one will tell her to go back and have a second chance, one will want her to stay. Hopefully she takes the second chance

i think that they could possibly kill meredith off because then they could just cast ellis grey more and then it would still be ‘greys’ anatomy … right?

k i totally agree, if meredith dies than the show will be turned in to nothing… and if any of the main caracters die than the show will turn into nothing, it won’t be a show i watch on a regurlar basis .. i think greys anatomy is a show that should stay as it is with the same caracters.
in my opinion

There is a medical textbook called grey’s anatomy that is very commonly used in medical schools and particularly in sugrical libraries. I dont know if much of the general public knows that so I doubt meredith will die but if she did, the show could still be reasonably named grey’s anatomy.

The medical textbook is actually called Gray’s Anatomy - they use Meredith’s surname as a play on this

i really really want merideth to live…but
i don’t think that just because the show is called grey’s anatomy would keep the writers would keep from killing merideth…because it is a name of a anatomy textbook…play on words or not
and also…no more references to the OC please?!?! the oc was crap…it was headed down the cancelation road before they killed off marissa…

I competely agree, killing Meredith would kill the show! And besides I heard from some entertainment news show that a male charactor would be leaving the show.

I think that MER is going to Live. Altho what MIGHT happen is this.
Mer is seeing the guy with the bomb that went boom and Denny. She is in a transition that you are to go when you are dying. I think her mom is going to die and while she is still in this mental state she is going to see her mom ( Since when you go to heaven you are to regain everything back. Beauty, your mind and body) Mer will see her mom and then maybe patch things up? Have a talk? Something? I am hoping for that. Then MER wakes up and has a WHOLE NEW outlook on life. I dont know but its a long shot but Thats what I am thinking maybe might happen?!

Am I the only one who thinks that they could totally pull off killing Meridith? I mean she’s really the least interesting character on the show…she’s the character that everything happens around and really, i find her quite whiney. Yes, the show’s called “Grey’s anatonmy” but that doesn’t mean that Meredith has to be ALIVE. She could be a ghost who just watches what happens to the people she loved in life. Part of me thinks this would be a refreshing change. We could watch through her eyes as McDreamy struggles to come to terms with his death…how he finds love again. It also might be interesting to see Ellis Gray wake up and realize her only daughter is gone and actually show some real emotion. You might also see her get to know the father she didn’t want to know in life. I also think it would be a great way for them to bring Denny back!

Ok People. Heres the deal- You have to really think about the characters, the plot. They want to keep you guessing. NO, they aren’t killing Meredith, at least not permanently. Essentially, they are killing her. I mean, she IS dead, as of now. But she will come back. I believe that the little girl being lost, not talking, searching, was symbolic of Meredith’s own searching and feeling lost. She’s been that way throughout the whole series up until now. I do believe that she will have long conversations with Dennie and others- Did anyone else notice the nurse in the window in the background in the last scene? So, she’s going to stay “dead” for awhile, because time will “stop” and then her mom will die, allowing them to have one final real conversation before she comes back. The last time they talked it was horrible and Meredith has been walking around in a fog ever since, hence the “drowning” metaphor. So, think a little deeper about the symbolism of the episodes and you’ll see that Meredith does not die, but it is a way for us to understand the evolution of her character.

well like i have said to everyone i know that watches the show if they kill her i will not even think twice about not watching it. i agree with everyone else cause she is the main character. hello??? they cant let her die. unless they are gonna do what they do on desperate housewives and have her as the narorator. i think that would be stupid. i would definatley hunt down the writers if they did.

As much as I hate to see Mer go, medically speaking having her live would be completely incongruent. She was in the water for how long? How much water is in her lungs? Her heart hasn’t been beating for how long (at the very least twenty minutes)? She’s got brain damage at the very least! They can’t even bring her temperature up, even though they are using warm fluids, showing that her circulation isn’t up to par. It’s just not medically possible! Honestly, I think killing her would be a beautiful way to end the show (even though there are spoilers for next season). With all the tiffs between cast members, and some wanting out, what a way to end the entire show! Have a show that goes out on a high note, rather than lingering to its end (like ER). True she’s not really one of the most compelling characters, but she is the title character. As me and my people discussed it last night, we think that it would be a good time to end, before the tensions in the cast bring down the show.

If Meredith died I would probably like the show a little better. I found Meredith somewhat annoying. the character that I really care about is Christina. the only reason that I don’t want Meredith to die is that then there would be another grievance for the characters and the show would probably get canceled

To Lori’s comment on the nurse in the window- was that in the trauma room with everyone or in the very last scene with Mer and Denny and Dylan? Cause I saw Meredith’s reflection but not the nurse….

Okay, I agree there is no way that the producers and writers of GA would kill off meredith. It would be VERY stupid on their part if they do. They should know better that if they want to keep their ratings up, they’ll keep the main character alive for as long as possible, even if she isn’t the most interesting of the bunch. It shows it at the end of the last episode where she met Denny and the bomb guy that she was gonna come back. When people go into coma’s, they usually fall into this dream like state. I think that in the next episode, her mom is going to have the surgery, DIE and then possibly her and meredith will have their last heart to heart. AND THEN Meredith will come back. I still have this funny feeling that something is going to happen to Burke or Georgie though… I don’t know, I’m just getting impatient for Thursday and I’d really like to know what the heck is going on!!!

Mer cannot die. However, I think that her mom will die and they will be able to correct what went wrong in their relationship before mer decides to give life a second chance. In this second chance I think she will take on a whole new outlook and maybe even put her relationship with McDreamy to the test and possibly end it. I also think that Addison or Christina will save Mer (medically). But I believe her mom will be the one that truly SAVES mer. Also I think Denny will convince mer to help Izzie move on and start her life anew. The textbook Gray’s Anatomy is not the same as the show. It is a play on words and the show is medically involved yes but not the same. Mer can’t die, please Shonda don’t let this happen. I will personally say that my family and I have decided that if mer dies we will no longer watch the show.

There are historical medical cases where people have been immersed in freezing water and their organs have shut down to allow all the body’s energy to keep the brain alive, then the organs eventually kick back into gear.
This could totally happen to Meredith, and it probably will…just not before she talks to her mother and maybe to Denny to get a message for Izzie.
I think having Meredith actually drown, have an out-of-body experience, and then come back to life would be a great way to cure her of her woe-is-me dark and twisty ways that led her, a few episodes ago, to try to drown herself in her bathtub.

Ok, obviously Meredith can’t die. Medical she is not dead because you are not dead until you are warm and dead, and her temperature was in the 80s.

People die due to hypothermia. If you’ve ever gone mountain climbing, the number one safety issues (sans avalanches) is hypothermia. It’s an issue if you go into the ocean, or creeks, this time of year. My people and I have been talking, and the majority of us wish that they would kill her off…we are so tired of her incesant whining about her poor sad life (she has a hot boyfriend, a good job…and like millions of people she has to care for an ill parent…I certainly don’t feel sad for her!). Only two more days to go…
