Well, it’s still several hours before the episode airs, but I figured there would be lots to talk about afterwards, so here’s the discussion post for those of you anxious to discuss what’s going to happen tonight - before and after it happens.

There is a slightly different preview for tonight’s show at http://lou66.multiply.com/video/item/1. It’s from CTV. Meredith’s voiceover says, “There’s more I have to say… so much more…” as it shows her sinking in the water. It also shows Derek holding her jacket and asking the little girl where Meredith is, and other characters at the hospital asking about when was the last time anyone saw her.

I have not stopped coming up with different ideas about who will be killed and what possible story lines will come from the apparent “death”. I think they will end this episode with Merideth flat lined, but revive her in the following episode…maybe with some memory loss…and why she’s flat lined that’s when Denny&Doc will appear…but will she go into the light????WHO KNOWS UNTIL TONIGHT…I can’t wait

I hope to god they aren’t comsidering doing that. I mean it’s bad enough they are trying to act like they are killing off the narrator of the story..Who come up with this crap? I love Greys. But they could have let it been someone else.. Like maybe Derrick. Everyone knows the narrator of the stpry never dies. Unless they are ending the show???

this is insainnne! Is she actually going to be dead? like really? i mean, i can see it in my head. Everyone dealing with the death, working at the hospital…and then like, seanes of Maradith like, talking to all the dead people who die in the hospital…and then like, there’s the new story line. McDreamy saved Meredith from the water….
and then back at the hospital they were doing all they could to save her….
she is just about to die when all the color comes back to her face, she coughs a lot and she looks to her side to find a strange man. ON THE OTHER SIDE IS DENNY!!!!

Meredith will be revived in the next episode. It is her mom that will die next week.
That “strange dude” that was on the other side of her was the guy from the bomb squad from last years episodes “its the end of the world”…..”as we know it”.
It is funny, last year they made it look like Mer died, but she lives, and they are doing it this time again.
They can’t have her die, her and Derek will make georgeous babies:P

Ok - if they turn this into another “Desperate Housewives” thing, they will loose many viewers..and that’s not the way they do things. If the spoilers are true and it is her mom that dies, it seems that she would be the one to ‘talk’ Mer away from the light. Kind of her way of finally turning into a real mother after all these years. Just a few thoughts…

I really liked this episode, especially when the producers decided to bring back Denny and the Bomb Squad offical for dramatic purposes. I dont think Meredith would die because she IS a main character and I didnt read any rumors that Ellen wanted to quit. Yes, if they do pull a Desperate Housewives it would suck!

There’s no way Meredith will stay dead. They wouldn’t have brought back Denny and Dylan to make it “Grey’s Anatomy: The Afterlife”. To keep them all there narrating on the rest of the show would just be cheesy and dumb. I agree that someone else, maybe her mom will die and talk her away from the light. Or maybe Callie…

Ugghhhh Meredith’s character annoys me now that she is with McDreamy. It’s like the chase is over so now what with them. One could only assume it is one of the main characters and her mom is not one that would stick with us. Wondering if it could be McSteamy cause he was taking it kind of hard or Justin Chamber’s may commit suicide because of all of the stress. Who knows…. Til’ next week

I believe Meredith is pregnant (reason for Montgomery coming to the room) - that will be the shocker.
Meredith’s getting attached and motherly, helping this little girl (who is probably Izzie’s daughter). Two pregnant women on the show and a little girl - so there’s got to be somebody else pregnant.
Maybe it won’t be Meredith’s mom that dies, but somebody like the chief or something. Think about it, he was all planned to retire to go back to his wife when he finds out his wife has another man - so he has nothing to live for. Maybe that’s why she snapped out of it - to say goodbye. Just a thought.

its so friggin stupid if she comes back to life.
she was under the water for like.. 3/4 of the episode. she is pale and has had no pulse for like.. an hour. if she comes back to life she will be severely brain damaged.
i will be incredibly pissed off if she comes back and is perfectly fine because that is just CRAP.

They can’t kill Callie - that would throw George into a coma… his character has gone through enough with his father dying - it’s somebody else’s turn for drama. All of them have had something happen to them except Karev and the chief.

Well you see I have to explain myself of why my dearest merideth can not possibly be dead. She just can’t. It doesn’t make sense to me. It just won’t happen. I can def relate to McDreamys feelings right now because if I would ever lose Jake. WEll you see Jake is the love of my life and I love him with all my heart. I want to be with him so badly and I can’t wait to see him Monday. I tried calling him today and but he didn’t answer. I called at 7:15 so he should have answered because he goes to the gym at 8 and after that he studies only for about 30 minutes because the chapter he is studying isn’t rather hard so he should be up and not doing anything. I just don’t see why he didn’t answer the phone. I mean I am getting really scared because when he does this to me it feels as if I have done something wrong, but I don’t think I have done anything wrong. Do you think I have done anything wrong. I mean one weekend he wants to be with me and the other weekend he has nothing to do with me. McDreamy is so cute but not as cute as Jake. Jake’s skin is just a creamy white and his eyes are amazing. He can be very blunt but I love everything about him. I would not change a single thing on him. He is perfect in every way. I want to have his child and become part of the family. OMG! I think I’m about to have heart failure here that episode was insane! Mer can’t die I agree with that, but I really think that the theory where its her mom that dies and talks her out of walking twords the light is the most believeable cuz think about it last week she was upset cuz her mother was having surgery and she had lost her memory again and Mer didn’t get to say what she need to to her mother. Hence the whole “I have so much more to say” shpeal but IDK it could be the cheif too but i think that may be just a bit too overly convenient for everyone linned up for the position of cheif (I hope Bailey gets it)

i love the show and i cried my eyes out tonight, but medically speaking, is she DOESNT die, its not real! a human brain can survive without oxygen for no more than 6 min without brain damage… she definitely was in the water for more than 6 min! does she not know how to swim?? i dont get it!! i mean on one hand they cant kill off the main character, her name is in the title of the show!! but on the other, its not really medically possible for this to happen if she does wake up. i really hope they dont do a desperate housewives move with her narrating from the grave.. im hopin she will just maybe have some brain damage, or go through lots of recuperation, but please dont die! i cant wait till next week, i dunno how im goin to wait one week for this.

Oh man, you all are hysterical. I’m totally freaking out over that episode, too. I know the characters aren’t real, and none of it actually happens, but I can’t help but get wrapped up in it! it I know it wouldn’t be called Grey’s Anatomy if Grey were to actually die, but still, how messed up would that be?! I would probably stop watching, but I would still be upset over her death.

I agree with Christina. Can Meredith not swim? It seemed like she gave up on trying to stay above water pretty quikly. I would’ve just floated on my back for awhile. It’s not that hard. I learned that swimming skill when I was 5. Unless Meredith didn’t take AquaQuest. Haha. Im just joking. Still ondering why she wouldn’t at least try to swim or call for help!

Ok, at the end ABC said something about tune in for the “devastating conclusion” next week. To me that definately means *someone* is going to die. I don’t think it will be Meredith because, like several others have said, she is the GREY in GREY’s Anatomy. I bet they are going to give up and her heart will just start beating again. It’s really cool to see Denny again, all full of color instead of sick with his heart. I just wish it could be Izzie that sees him instead. And what’s up with Izzie being all mean to George about Callie? She may not be his type, but she is nice to him, so what’s it to Izzie?

Everyone is really overanalyzing. They aren’t going to kill off Meredith. As she would say “Seriously!!”. What would they call the show? “___ Anatomy”?? When the spoiler says:

So, Meredith is technically dead as of this week. Someone will die next week, but only one of the two will actually “die”. That’s what I believe the 3rd comment refers to. One “sticks” meaning…one actually dies. Who would that be? It’s not going to be an intern, the chief, or an attending. I’m putting my vote on Meredith’s mom. I love how they are bringing back old characters and cannot wait to see how they fit in before she rejoins the living… :)

They always say you’re not dead until you are WARM and Dead. At the end of the episode, mer’s body temp was only 81 which is VERY VERY cold. I think there’s still time. ( i’ve brought back a few people when they have been hypothermic, I’m a paramedic) But still, that doesn’t mean that the people writing grey’s anatomy can make me have this much stress over this episode! they CAN”T kill her off! They just can’t….I am bidding on the Mer’s Mom thing…..(at least, i’m really really hoping!) I don’t know how i’m going to get through the week!!!! ugh!!!!

Yeah! No kidding- a hotline. And analyzing is a good thing. I’ll relate it to life if need be. . . thought that would be a little much now. Ok, I cheated. I read Grey Matter, but I knew it before that- Mer has these issues (her mom, herself, etc.. la-dee-freakin’ da) and she has to be by herself to deal with them. She has to realize that she doesn’t have to be dark and twisty Mer. anymore. This talking is actually getting me pumped for next week! I KNOW they shouldn’t (prob. can’t) kill Mer because of the namesake of the show. I get it, but it’s the thing you feel from it in the moment as you watch Mer and the others. *sigh* Honestly, I’m in love with the writing of this show. What a cool job.

Holy moly that was an awesome episode! If Merideth is actually dead though it won’t really be like Desperate Housewives because Mary Alice wasn’t a main character to begin with. She was dead almost the whole time. It would be really weird if Mer actually dies…I had a silly idea how they could keep it as Grey’s Anatomy though if she were to die…maybe Mer’s mom would suddenly get better and become a doctor again. haha…that’s almost as likely as someone who’s without oxygen for like 20 minutes not having perm. brain damage.

I know Meredith wont die i think it’ll be her mom and i think her mom will cross over and she’ll be able to say what she wanted to say to her mom. Also I think the little girl is Izzie’s daughter and I think Izzie is in love with George thats why she thinks him marrying Kallie is such a big mistake. Besides Karev and the She-Shepard Addison are in love so he’s out of the picture for Izzie. Who else agrees with me?

Everyone says Meridith can’t die because the show is named after her, but the title, I believe, is a play on the long time standard book of human anatomy… “gray’s anatomy”
Having said that, I don’t think it will be Meredith, Izzy is looking like a good candidate,now that she is off probation….can’t wait to see next week!

Okay here’s what I see happening:
1) Meredith will not die for obvious reasons
2) Sloan will help save her thus becoming friends with McDreamy again
3) George and Callie will break up, and he will get together with Izzie
4) Meredith is pregnant
5) Christina will finally get to tell Meredith her and Burke are engaged
6) Alex will end up falling in love with Jane Doe

holy hell that was crazy!! So I really don’t think merideth is going to die… that would be stupid, and i would have to put bets on her mom being the one who dies. OH and the little girl, although it would be sweet, probaby can’t be her daughter. i’m positive in the episode we find our she has a kid that she was at least 10 years old, six in the picture she shows chyanne(the pregnant girl in that episode) and she says the picture was six or seven years ago… and the girl in the episode this week looked older than that!
can’t wait till next week!!!!

I don’t think she’s pregnant.. whoever said that would be why Addison was there was stupid…. everyone is there… the entire cast… that’s why Addy is there, not because she pregnant..

Just my opinion on the length of time Meredith was under water… it may have been as little as 5 minutes. Yes I know that Derek didn’t get her out of the water for quite a while but ya gotta remember that everything on the episode is happening simultaneously. And…even if it was longer than 5 minutes in cold water (below 21ºC / 70ºF), near-drowning victims have been revived after being submerged for as long as an hour because of a body response known as the mammalian diving reflex. Gonna take my nerdy self off to watch the end of Men in Trees now

That one is just a guess. I think there is a possibility because it would be a nice twist and because they said someone else will be pregnant (I believe)

1. I do not think Merideth can die…she is the GREY of Grey’s Anatomy. 2. I think if they were to kill off Merideth they would have done it in a more passionate way…not waking up with the bomb guy and Denny there telling her she is dead…too cheesy for Merideth’s real death….and maybe not so meddically unreal…..Merideth was under water for at least 40 minutes, but that is including commercials and things. In TV land she was probably only under water for like 20 minutes. I dunno???? But I really think Merideth WILL NOT DIE!

Okay here’s what I see happening:
1) Meredith will not die for obvious reasons — Agreed
2) Sloan will help save her thus becoming friends with McDreamy again — Likely
3) George and Callie will break up, and he will get together with Izzie — Unlikely… there just best friends.. even if Izzy felt that way.. she’s not ready
4) Meredith is pregnant — Too much going on.. maybe in a few weeks
5) Christina will finally get to tell Meredith her and Burke are engaged — If she’s not in a coma
6) Alex will end up falling in love with Jane Doe — He loves Addison

Yeah, that’s an idea. Why would George and Callie break up? They’re so cute together. That would be sad (aha, that’s how they’ll get us.) I dunno. I know Alex likes the baby thing and he knows the color of jane doe’s eyes pretty well. Mer, even on her deathbed, sure knows how to bring people together!

Didn’t you guys watch the interviews on the season 2 DVD? George said he thought it would be cool if he and Izzie got together. It’d be a twist for sure!
BTW I don’t think all these things are going to happen right away!!

oh and just a point for all you out there who are worried mer, izzy, or any of the other main characters are going to die… think about this.. If someone was going to die that would mean the actor would be leaving the show, which means we would already know about it. Therefore, realisicaly… none of them can die.

i did watch the interviews on the season 2 dvd, but that was just his opinion as a actor… he has no say in what actually get written!

I realize that it was just his opinion. Sometimes the writers do take that into consideration. PLUS it seems like mostly everyone else has gotten together so why not? More drama, more twists! That’s what makes the show so great!

Okay, as explained earlier, it is entirely possible for mer to make it out alive. When you are involved in a cold water drowning(it was cold enough for them to wear coats on dry land) Your body essentially puts itself into a deep deep coma so that a minimum amout of energy is needed and shunts blood to only the most vital of organs while the others are put into a deep freeze essentially to preserve them until they can be warmed again. The key in patients like this is to warm them slowly so that you don’t damage the tissue my heating it too fast. Therefor I don’t predict mer coming back alive and all the way out of her coma for a while. Killing her off would be the stupidest thing –yes they could still have her narrate like on desperate housewives, but remember what happened to the oc? They killed off the main female character and their ratings dropped from 24mil to 4 mil. I vow to never watch a single episode of any tv show on thursday ever again if she is permanently dead!

OK, I’m no doctor, but the whole 5 minutes till brain dead isnt true. For some reason 11 minutes is popping into my head. And as you all know this is television we’re talking about here. So who knows how long she was really in the water. Think about it, David Blaine stayed under water for what 8 minutes? Hes still alive and well.

1. Meredith will be revived back to life.
2. If anyone really dies it will be Merediths mother.
3. Either Christina or Addison will save Meredith.
4. Izzie and Mcsteamy are going to get it on.
5. Derek will propose to Meredith on the season finale and we will have to wait till next season for her answer.
7. Addison is NOT there because “Meredith is pregnant”…Meredith is not pregnant. What do you think they did a pregnancy test while performing CPR? I think not.
8. None of the above are facts…Just my theory.

Here is what I see happening:
1. Meredith will be revived-she can be revived because 1) she is hypothermic and though usually one cannot survive without oxygen for more than 4-6 minutes, hypothermia causes the body to conserve engergy for the major organs (heart, brain, lungs, etc.) so, once they warm her up she could be okay.
2. Addision will be the one who saves her. Recall Addision recommended those two warming techniques when she first walked in the trauma rooom? I also think Christina will barge in and yell at Meredith-tell her she is her person and she can’t leave because she has to tell her she is engaged to Preston and if Mer doesn’t wake up, she can’t get married without Mer, will be desperately un-McHappy and it will be all Mer’s fault!
3. Mer’s mother dies. Recall, she told Richard two episodes ago that Mer had a lot to learn and she would not be able to teach her. She made Richard promise to take care of Mer. Mer’s mom did not yet have surgery-recall all non-emergency surgeries were taken off the board due to the ferry accident. So, either an OR opens up and Mer’s mom goes in-which I think is unlikely since Preston, the Chief, Christina-everyone-is traumatized by the Mer thing-or, Mer’s mom has one of her tachycardia events and her heart stops while all the interns and attendings are down in Trauma 1 with Mer.
4. It could also be that the person who dies and “sticks” is the baby of Jane Doe. Alex and Addision have been hovering over the woman due to her baby and Alex is very attached already. Maybe the baby dies, Alex bonds further with the woman who is now grieving the loss of her baby?

Meredith won’t die and who gives a crap if her recovery is realistic - it’s a tv show- probably half the stuff they do couldn’t or wouldn’t be done. It will be interesting to see how they explain it if McSteamy is the one who saves her when all of the other surgeons couldn’t. I read somewhere that Jane Doe had another trauma coming so I’m thinking her baby won’t make it and Alex will be there for her cause Addy is supposed to get sexy with someone that we don’t expect (according to spoilers) McSteamy and Izzie are on (again spoilers)

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I freaking…can’t handle waiting another six days. If I get called into work on Thursday, I seriously might quit my job…or just Tivo ;). But for real….Patrick Dempsey’s crying thing is always hard to watch…and this time was almost unbearable. I love that man! If Mer dies (stays dead?) that would totally destroy him…he would probably end up being a vegetable or something. So would I.

Holy cow!!! I didn’t realize there were as many people out there as addicted to this show as I was..lol. God I hope they don’t kill her off. That would just suck!! The funny thing is, is at the end of the show you hear one of them say no…hit her again..Or something to that affair. The craziest turn will be I believe is that McDreamys ex wife.. her sworn enemy..lol. i bet will be the one to bring her back!! She looked at Mcdreamy saw how he was hurting so much and new this was the one thing she could do to try to mske ammends between them….hmm. just food for though i suppose..=)

I love all the comments of how everyone thinks the next episode will end. Here are my two cents worth:
1. Meredith will be legally dead for another couple episodes. We will see her visit with the Bomb Guy and Denny. She will bring back a message to Izzy from Denny as well as tell Denny how much Izzy meant to him. She is there to resolves things for those two. She tells the Bomb Guy how many lives he did save including her own.
2. Meredith left the hospital before talking to her mom. Derek was mentioning things to her that she needed to resolve things with her mom. Before she found out her mom relapsed back into her lost state, she didn’t get to say what she wanted. Now she will and her mom will die. Her mom will tell her that her life was anything but ordinary. That she is a fine doctor and she did a wonderful job taking care of her but its time to move on. Mom will take Meredith’s place.
3. Addison will realize that she loves Alex because he genuinely cares for people now as is apparent by the caring of the pregnant lady. They will eventually move into a relationship.
4. With Izzy having a “rebirth” or “rockstar” experience, she now feels confident to say what she has been holding in. She tells George what she has been wanting to say for sometime. That his marriage to Callie was a mistake. But that it goes on.
5. I think Callie will realize that George can not keep their relationship professional while at work and seek to end things. Then she finds out she is pregnant.
6. I think Christina will realize that she and Burke really aren’t meant to be together and that being a doctor is the only thing that matters to her. I do believe that she will rescue Meredith when everyone else gives up.
7. I think Derek realizes the impact of what life without Meredith would be like and he proposes the minute she is back. He has to keep his “Ferry Boat”!
8. I think the Chief will revoke his resignation and stay on board as doctor and so will end the competition between him and all the other doctors.
9. I think Miranda Bailey will make chief surgeon since everyone else thinks that is why she opened the clinic. Its because of the way she opened the clinic without waiting to be told how to do it.
Just my two cents worth, so here is hoping all of it ends well. I don’t think the writers will revive Meredith too soon,but leave her in a Coma to work other stories around the friends not being able to talk with Meredith.

Typically, brain death begins at around 6 minutes without oxygen. HOWEVER, if the body temperature is lowered then someone can be revived after longer periods without oxygen, with fewer detrimental effects (brain damage). Plus, she has been receiving CPR which keeps oxygen moving through the body, so hypothetically, brain damage in this case could be minimal.

Meredith is going to also see her mother (who is the one who dies) in her near-death experience. That’s where she’s going to finally make things right with her mother, or, visa-versa. Meredith will finally have peace with all of her inner demons.
That’s what I think anyway!
And then we’ll see ‘Some Kind of Miracle’
