“Scrubs” Joins “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday Nights

November 29, 2006 by Ingrid Diaz

In an odd move, NBC is moving sitcom “Scrubs” to Thursday nights to face off with Grey’s Anatomy.

“Even though my wife ["Scrubs' " Christa Miller] is not going to be watching ‘Scrubs’ – even though she’s on it, she’s such a ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fan – I’m confident there’s room for both” doctor shows, “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence told reporters earlier this month in a conference call with star Zach Braff.

And though he joked that “we’re going to name Zach’s character ‘McWeenie’ and that “not many people realize that Zach and Patrick Dempsey have the same kind of hair” – and though Braff’s character will still be dealing this season with the fallout from a very unplanned pregnancy – Lawrence seems happy to leave the sudsier aspects of medicine to ABC.

“We’re not going to participate” in a soap-opera showdown, he said.

Nor in the Nielsen madness, apparently.

“We used to wake up and look at ratings all the time the first three years. But it’s been six years, and we’re still working in this creepy, deserted hospital,” and they’re just glad to still be there, said Lawrence.

Any G.A./Scrubs fans disappointed (outraged?) by the conflict? I don’t watch Scrubs anymore, but I remember really enjoying it Once Upon a Time.
