Chandra Wilson Talks About Being Bailey
In a recent interview with Chron, Chandra Wilson discussed life in Dr. Bailey’s shoes, and what it takes to transform Wilson into Bailey.
“It’s a teacher’s mentality,” she explains. “The pilot described me as the Nazi, so I had to think about that and try to relate. It’s about my demeanor, how I carry myself, demanding respect from my students. Once I have that, I just teach.”
It sounds like the character came easily to Wilson.
“She’s a very familiar woman,” the actress agrees. “I can’t say she’s a particular person, but everybody seems to know someone that’s Dr. Bailey-like.
“The biggest compliment I receive is when people say they know that woman. Or when people in the medical profession come up to me and say, ‘Yeah, Dr. Bailey, she’s on my floor.’ I’ve dealt with people like her; my mom’s like her.”
She says sometimes people aren’t sure if they recognize her on the street because she’s “too short”. Haha.
I love them both.

Hey, thanks for linking to that Chandra Wilson interview; I never would have found it on my own. Bailey has been my favorite character since the pilot episode and I just hope there’s a lot more of her in Season Three!

Beside Isaiah and Sandra, Chandra is also my favourite character in Grey’s…
Will be glad to watch the combination of Dr Bailey, Dr Burke and of course Dr Yang in Season 4 of Grey’s…

Chandra Wilson does an excellent job with Bailey, and I have enjoyed her performances for over two years now. She is the kind of celebrity that you can look up to for her charitable work in addition to great acting.
