Ellen Pompeo Reveals One Intern Leaving Grey’s Anatomy

In an interview with TV Guide, Ellen Pompeo revealed the following:

TV Guide: If you had a very special Valentine’s episode, what surprises would it have?
Pompeo: A lesbian scene! [Laughs] Speaking of surprises: Did you know that one of the interns is leaving the intern program?

TV Guide: Can you say who?
Pompeo: No, but whoever it is knows already. I just know that it’s not me.

I’m entirely not spoiled for this show, so I have no idea whom it could be. But my heart breaks a little at the thought of losing any of them.

I would hate to see any of them go– they all add to the show’s dynamic. Do you know what I mean? Sure, Alex is an ass, but it’s entertaining to see him struggle with his assiness as others are subjected to his assiness.

I don’t know, Izzy’s getting pretty annoying and George just lets people walk all over him. Would we realy miss him if someone with a little more personality took his place?

Her quote just says that the intern is leaving the intern program, not necessarily the show itself… Maybe Izzy, because of the rules she is breaking with Denny? In terms of personality, it seems more likely that Alex (and his increasing anger) won’t be able to handle the program for much longer

I believe the article said that someone is leaving the intern PROGRAM, not the show.

I think it would be Izzy. If Denny dies then i think she will go, if he doesnt i think she will get in trouble with have feelings for a patient. If christina goes I will have a fit.

I’d hate to see Izzy go, she adds such heart to the show. Alex is a bit agressive, though I like the actor who plays him. Ho’s character is hateful & seemingly uncaring. I either wish she’d be off the show, or that she’d soften up a bit. Mallory could truly use a bit more personality, but I think this is the writers’ fault. I guess if anyone were to leave, I’d rather it be Alex or Oh’s character (can’t remember her character’s name).

One more thing…if there ends up being a lesbian relationship, then I won’t watch the show anymore. I don’t enjoy watching gays & lesbians. Not that I’m homophobic, as I have friends who are gay…I just don’t like seeing it.

One last comment. Grey’s Anatomy, though I watch it fairly frequently, doesn’t hold a candle to House, MD. Grey’s is more like a soap opera, whereas you really LEARN something with House, MD. Yes, his character is abrasive, but he’s brilliant & underneath it all you can see that there’s a caring man.

It has to be Alex that goes. While I agree that simpering sap George would hardly be missed, even HE adds some value (if nothing more than a dog for each of the other main characters to kick around, in their own separate ways). Alex is a loser, dead weight that the rest of the cast has to carry from week to week. Dumping his sorry ass will improve the show dramatically.

Well, you know it won’t be Sandra Oh or Merideth, so that leaves Alex, George and Izzy. I doubt it is George, especially with his new love interest. My guess is Izzy - kicked out for fraternizing with a patient. She’ll still be on the show as a side character, because she is interesting, and gorgeous. Alex will stay on to play out his antagonism with Addison Shepard and generally balance the show. Izzy’s got nothing left - unless she hooks up with George, which ain’t gonna happen

I agree that whoemever leaves would be missed because of the dynamics they lend to the show. However after watching last night I truly believe it could be Izzy.

Is Katherine really leaving the show??? She was my favorite! And seriously, I’ve never worked myself into hysterics while watching a tv show before this Monday’s season finale. The best, and most depressing show I’ve ever seen.

Again, it says the intern PROGRAM. Ellen could have said the SHOW but that means if Izzie does leave she will still stay on the show. If its not Izzie theyll still stay on the show but theyll just leave.
It cannot be Mrs. Shepherd because shes not an intern.

I think Izzy will leave the intern program, but stay on the show as… ALEX’S LOVE INTEREST! Remember their sexual tension? And keep in mind, he was the one to scoop her up from Denny’s bed. If I’m not mistaken, he was the one to walk with her out of the hospital when she told the Chief she quit.

Alex is the kind of guy you love to hate, and he isn’t completely bad. I kind of like him.

EP never said that anyone was leaving the show just than an intern leaves the program.

I think it will be Sandra Oh…Christiana. I bet she gets in trouble doing Burke’s surgeries, because she’s not ready for them. Maybe, kills or maimes a patient. Plus, she probably wants to go back to movies.

but, there is a possibility that one of them could be working on a movie or something, thats a possibility.

I think it’s Alex. Since he wanted to go into plastics like Sloan. Probably he’ll leave for New York and start his career. Tho I bet we’ll still see a lot of him in the show.

OMG, I cannot believe this! They cannot have anyone go. I’m from Germany so I’m only halfway through season 2, but reading all this really got me scared. Izzy is my favorite character! I already loved Katherine on Roswell and think she’s even more amazing here. What did she do to Denny??? And why???

Peeps! Am I reading this correctly or was Pompeo’s revelation not quoted in March of ‘06??? We already KNOW who left the intern program - it was Isobel Stevens. After Denny died the night of prom, she announced to everyone that she quit. Fast forward to this season…While trying to decide what to do with her 8.7 mil, the interns are having lunch discussing what they would do with that kind of money. Christina makes a comment in respnse to Alex stating, “Come on! You wouldn’t have time to go to your Bahama if you had that kind of money. And you wouldn’t quit. You’re a surgeon. It’s what you do.” I believe this is when Izzy starts to realize that she cannot give up her dream, her career. And so she returns.

It’s the 15th of January now, so I’m sure everyone knows that Izzy quit. Seem everbody knows I suppose I could write about other things that don’t concern the main reason 4 this poll. Like ’she/||!!!’ (previous person with a comment),I am also waiting 4 the next grey’s anatomy 2 start. Lots of Grey’s Anatomy fans hate Alex Karev, but I somehow like him a little. Sure he’s an ass and a jerk, but behind his arrogance he’s… well, I don’t know, but I think ‘Gwen’ sees it too. You don’t need to hate him so much. Everyone says Goerge lacks personality and that he lets any one just walk over him. But why do U hate him 4 that? I think his insecurities make him cute and someone you just can’t help but feel soorry 4. I’m not saying it’s a good thing 2 be like that. It would be nice if he took control more often and stopped accepting crappy things. I NEED 2 GO NOW, BUT I WILL WRITE SOON WITH THE REST OF THIS. I LOVE GREY’S ANATOMY AND IT FEELS AS IF IT IS THE BLOOD THAT PUMP OXYGEN 2 MY HEART.

Meredith is not leaving the show, she will revive in the next episode this week, but her mom dies on this week. What I think will happen is that since Meredith is kinda dead and seeing the dead (bomb dude and Denny) her mom will die and appear there and they will talk etc since they had a heated discussion when she was lucid and that is when Meredith will wake up. Then her and Mc Yummy will be together:)

Maybe it’s not even one of the main people leaving Grey’s. She could be saying that to add more anticipation or whatever. They aren’t the only interns on the show, there is the change that one of the interns leaving is a different one, not Christina, Meredith, George, Izzie or Alex.
